Default question abotu ecu's

I don;t know why i can;t figure this out and maybe it's not that biug of a deal but.. When swapping engines in a car say from OBD0 car to OBD1 engine... do you leave the original ecu in the car and repin the stock ecu to accept the new engine's wires? Why can't you just put the newer engine's ecu in the older car? like since yo uare switching to a OBD1 engine just get the ecu out of the old car to and switch it to your older car?

you need to get the ECU that is for your engine. if your OBD0 you need a OBD0 ECU, if your OBD1 you need an OBD1 ECU....
if you use a different ECU with a different engine its not gonna read the same, because there many types of things that are not the same. such as timming, sohc or dohc, the list goes on.......

i thought the first rule was that you had to have at least a 12 pk. in the fridge, then the wiring harness was the second rule

so the wiring harness for the lights, dash, a/c, and that stuff that is already in the car you keep and make the new ecu plug into it? do you get a new conector for the old wiring harness and re-pin it so that it plugs into the new ecu?

You buy or make a onversion harness for the ecu. You use the engine wire harness that came with your car. And at least a 12 pack in the fridge. Trust me youll need it.
