Default Push button starter

Hey, anyone know anything about those? Is it better to get one of those "Ignited" S2000 style button brands that I see in import tuner (that's like $80), or can you get away with cheap *** autozone ---- for $20? I hear it'll ---- things up. How do you install that by the way?

depends on the car, but basically you *could* splice into the solenoid wire off the starter, and then run an ignition-hot to the other side of the starter button.. that way, when your key is in the "on" postion, you can push button start it.

i installed a factory button from the s2000 that i bought from honda
VERY easy install, ill look for a reference website, and it plugs right into the cig lighter!

you can get a pigtale from a computer store that fits the button perfect and gives you pre made wires, like a custom harness.

I would get the one that plugs into the cigarette lighter BUT my lighter is very low next to my shifter. I don't like that. I have a 99 civic. I was thinking of installing it where my hazard light switch is. Right there on my dash. It's a circle so I thought it would be a perfect fit and I would put a separate switch somewhere else for my hazards

Sounds like a good plan and yes id get the s2k button, its not hard to install, u still need to push ur clutch on that 99 and put the key in, kind of defeats the purpose... if i did it you wouldnt have to use the key, haha

yeah, thats what i did... cuz my solenoid on my starter is fucked and the ignition doesnt work. i just used a 65 cent very small momentary switch from radio shack and hid it cuz there are too many ------- theives in my area. i dont need to push the clutch anymore, but the key does need to be in the on position.

damn breaker84 you're getting pretty consistent in writing a question every night for us to answer.

here we go;

first off, push button starters are RICE, you can get the "SiR" models or whatever from your local autozone. They look cheap, are cheap. Anything is possible if you are familiar enough with the wiring, I'm assuming that you really don't want to dive into splicing up your electrical configuration on your ride so you might want to look into a kit that's plug n play.

I've installed various tumblers and starters in cars, done pushbuttons on heavy equipment and small engine applications. The one push button starter I did on a car is for my dad's '85 Volvo 245 that has 320k miles on it (he drove that car off the dealership lot and has driven the hell out of it thru all these years). His key switch failed one day so I thought it was the starter. After pulling that beastly starter and tearing it down to inspect the brushes I figured that the problem was in the wiring. Turned out the auction keyswitch portion of the ignition failed, so instead of getting another one (which are a true mother ****** to replace – not to mention door keys/ignition won’t be the same anymore) I opted for a pushbutton starter. The local auto parts place in town (Bumper2Bumper that only has parts in stock for chevy trucks) naturally didn’t have an aftermarket one so off to radioshack I went to get the twin pack of the cheap momentary switches. I just bypassed the wiring from the keyswitch to the momentary off-on-off switch at the engine wiring harness (yeah I’m that proficient in Volvo wiring to do that kinda crazed ----). You still have to turn the key to ACC but that final turn just doesn't work, it gets me almost every time I drive the car too "why the isn't this starting.. oh yeah push button"

I would suggest testing the wires right at the harness that plugs to find out which one is sending the signal back in and loop that wire off to the switch. A small switch will work as good as a big one (unless it’s that total rice look you’re going for), it’s not like there is that much amperage going thru the 18 gauge wiring that you’re using to connect it.

There is one thing to be considered. The ignition switch cuts power to ACC, the heater and other accessories while starting. This is done to maximise the starting voltage and minimise damage that voltage fluctuations could do to the sensitive equipment. Optimally your starter button should do the same thing.
