pulled the head off, don't see anything??

ok pulled the head of my prelude, two of the spark plugs kinda had a greenish tint to them, looked at the cylinder walls, they seem to be ok, no scratchs or scars, so I fill the cylinders up with gas like abaz said, and it took like 30 min before all the gas was gone, the gas drained out in all four cylinder evenly. so I look and the head gasket, its a metal one(3 layer), didn't see any thing wrong with it, also when I was taking off the head some Of the bolts came out a lot easier than others, I was think maybe teh guy didn't torque the bolts down. I will take pics of gasket, but I don't know how to post them, so If can email them to somebody that would be cool, thanks Ray

Ouch, I hate that situation. I would say just get new rings and break em in good.

yea did you take it easy on the motor when u first put it in?...sounds like you may have gotten screwed...take off the head and see if the promised parts are there

Re:blew the rings again, anyhelp?

yea pretty much so, but when I bought the motor it already had 8,000 N/A miles on it. but when I first got the motor I pulled the plugs and cylinder 1 and 4 where a lighter white color.

did u hear any pinging?

Re:blew the rings again, anyhelp?

no I didn't hear anything, Igot on it on the high-way, but its only at 5 psi, than I stopped at a light and it shut off, had a hell of a time getting startd again, opened the hood and there was oil all over the engine bay, started the car to get it home and, smoke or steam was coming out of the breather valve, alot of blue smoke coming out of tail pipe, and when I stopped at a redlght or something I would have smoke coming in to the car from the vents, what a mess :-\, so what are good parts to use, I want better rods, pistons, ring, and re-do the head with forged parts.

Re:blew the rings again, anyhelp?

hmm blown gasket is my guess

Re:blew the rings again, anyhelp?

the head has OEM vavle train, so I wanna put aftermarket parts in so I can run more boost, while it's being taken apart.

Semnos 11-02-2003 07:10 PM

Re:blew the rings again, anyhelp?

The head and valvetrain is ok for boosting that low.
The only reason i would change the valva train was if I was going to build a high rev engine.
You could get better cams for performance,

Re:blew the rings again, anyhelp?

semnos you relly think its a head gasket, I had a lot of blow by from the breather valve, and oil cap. when this happened to my f22 i had peaces of rings in the oil pan. But my goal I think is to run 12-15psi with no problems. how many pounds could I run with built bottom, and stock head? thanks

Re:blew the rings again, anyhelp?

the head has no effect on how much boost until you go really crazy then you can get it or the block (or both) o-ringed for better sealing...this i have no experience with so wait till someone else chimes in

well did a compression test 1#175 2#175 3#115 4#105. so now its time to look for parts

Re:blew the rings again, anyhelp?

could be cracked sleeves or broken piston ring lands. Once the head is off fill the cylinders half full of gas, thats usually a easy way to tell if the rings are sealing or not.

Only time I have ever blown headgaskets on hondas they have always pressurized the cooling system.

Re:blew the rings again, anyhelp?

I hope the sleeves are not cracked, than that means the block is shot, not sure when Iam going to to take it apart, cause I can still move it around if I have to. thanks for the info

Maybe I missed it.. but what kinda engine is this?

Re:blew the rings again, anyhelp?

its and h23, there where about 200 miles on it if that before it blew.

Re:blew the rings again, anyhelp?

shitty deal.

some people say break in rings HARD. like rev the ---- outta the engine to seal em.

who knows the theory..

Re:blew the rings again, anyhelp?

i heard that too.. but the author is a sport bike guy.. different use of engines...

Re:blew the rings again, anyhelp?

started to take engine apart, didn't get to far it started to rain, but I was looking at the head and seen a very little bit of oil in between the head and block the whole way around, didn't see any thing in the coolent, other than it being tinded yellow, I was using water wetter, but I will take pics to show you guys what I find after the head is off.
