problems with dirt track car pics*

well i have a good friend that built a 4cylinder race car for the local dirt tracks and he's been having some real problems with his new setup its a n/a z6 but about to be mini me cause he blew up his second block this season ( 4 races in) and now the problem is the car run fine if you just start it and let it idle rev it up yadda yadda its fine .. as soon as it hits the track (always fourth or 5th lap) the car just shuts down the engine .. he still has interior power it doesnt cut out. It isn't throwing any codes and he hooked his scan tool out and he said the injetor pulse start flat line'n and thats when it shuts done... here is a list of things he has tried
fuel pump
main relay
ecu
eninge harness
alt
extra grounds
coverd battery terminals with foam
he said it did on two diffrent z6's when i asked him what he was using for injectors and he said the guy at napa ordered him some for a accord becouse they have a higher flo rate ( don't know if this is true or not.)
next on the list of things to try is differen't injectors .. im wondering if his are suppoed to be high impedence and he has low in there and needs a resistor box hooked up r something .. if thats not it then we are going to try a dash harness .. p.s. it never had this problem last season with stock injectors he said he isn't sure if both motors had the accord injectors in them when he ran them.. but one has a snapped rod and the other block has a melted #3 piston .. so my question is ... does it sound like a injector problem or no ?? here are pics of the beast

me and pissnuts are building a 93 gsr with a b18b for the same tracks he races on

anybody have any thoughts ?? the only thing i can think of would be injectors cause it would make sense once the car is running and driving there is to much load on them causeing them to shut off .. but its fine at idle or revin it up..

low imp injectors take a while to overload the ecu. throw an ohm meter on em. if they're less than 3.. go get some resistors.

I think Stevemode was thinking of trying out his haggered EG coupe. After talking with the inbreed sister ------- retards that race in that class at his track all their uncontrollable knowlegdeabilities.

Re: problems with dirt track car pics*

I have personally fixed this EXACT!!! issue on two different track cars locally. All I did was chip and tune the motor with (insert favorite obd1 rom editor here ex. eCtune, Crome, uberdata) and all the problems went away. I promise this will fix it as I have now fixed two cars with this exact issue.

Post back and let me know when you tried this and it worked

Re: problems with dirt track car pics*

then why does it do it with a chipped p28 also ralphy ... i think im ganna talk to him he said the injectors he ran last year were at like 2.5 ohms and the ones in there now are at 20ohms ;)

All accords have resistor boxes.

Re: problems with dirt track car pics*

switched injectors still does also switched ecu and main relay.. tonight were hooking the fuel pump up to a toggle switch and see if thats the problem

pissnuts 06-02-2008 02:28 AM

Re: problems with dirt track car pics*

well we went out to the track tonight and had the same problem with the pump hooked up to the switch but if he turns the key off and back on it's good for like 2 more laps (very short track) and when the car dies it's about the same amount of laps each time. relay/grounds??????? ???

Re: problems with dirt track car pics*

So you went with a new ECU and the old inejctors? I think you might have just been overheating the ECU's without the resistors and then fried the ECU's.

We put new inejctors ecu dizzy fuel pump and more grounds and new relays .

Re: problems with dirt track car pics*

I promise I chipped one car with crome pro and the other one with eCtune and this exact issue went away. Everything you are describing is what happened to us. Do you have any local tuners in your area?

Mabey the car dosent like going left :P

Re: problems with dirt track car pics*

why would a chipped ecu help??????

Adam Hopkins 06-03-2008 12:17 AM

Re: problems with dirt track car pics*

I have no idea, But I SWEAR that is exactly what we had to do to fix both cars. I am an authorized tuner for eCtune so I am not just trying to blow smoke up someones ass by being a keyboard mechanic, I am speaking from experience and had EVERY SYMPTOM that you are describing. I can take pics of both cars and post them if you still do not believe me. I would not be chiming in and wasting Xenocrons space with useless info. I hope this helps someone and I hope you get your car running correctly.

Re: problems with dirt track car pics*

Just throwing this out there. It could be the ignition switch. Ive seen them break before just from the car hitting a really bad pot hole.

Re: problems with dirt track car pics*

Just to test Adams Idea that the problem is the rom just cut J1 in the ecu and run the car on the staock rom for a few laps. It will be the stock rom and throw a cel for a few things but all your wanting so see is if it quits in the same way.

We actually tried the same thing to no avail. It will shut down and still not throw a cel unless you have something unplugged. (at least it acted that way for me)

None the less it was a good suggestion and I applaud you for thinking outside the box ;)

Is that the super hornets class? I think by next year I'll have a car and a redneck license. That ---- rocks, ---- building 5 year long projects.

I reread the post he doesn't have a chipped ecu anyway...a Little tuning couldn't hurt it though. If you guys were near me I'd do it for free.
