Powersteering idea
 

So i had an epiphany today on the way to school....

I took my powersteering out, i currently have my lines looped with a can and a breather on it to keep the rack lubricated and allow air to escape. Not having powersteering has it's good and bad points. I really don't mind it in parking lots, but i like to palm the wheel a lot and sometimes it's a pain in the ass, plus on some corners it requires a little too much effort...

but i HATE regular powersteering, no feedback at all....

So i was thinking if i could re-install my pump and can back on, and modify the pressure that the rack recieves. I believe an average powersteering system uses about 1600 psi, so i was thinking of cutting it in half so it wouldn't work so much. Not entirely sure how i'll accomplish this, but i need to research some more and i just wanted some input.

sounds like a good idea. a normal pressure regualto would put alot of excess presure on the pump would it not

get a p/s underdrive pulley. aem obx whatever.

or get an electric p/s pump from an mr2 and make it work. :y

if i can get one of those pumps, i'm def gona do it. especially since i can put it anywhere i'd like. :6

well last night i couldn't stop thinking about the idea so i started reading the civic service manual. The part about the pump is pretty detailed. Apparently there's a control valve, and a variable orrifice. From what i got out of it, both devices control the pressure and volume of fluid supplied to the rack at different engine speeds. There is a spring in the pressure valve, so i'm wondering if i can't just cut it down or replace it with a weaker one...

how so? a stronger spring would hold the relif valve closed tighter, wouldn't it?

maybe im thinking the other way around, but that spring isn't all that strong to hold 1600psi

yeah, it uses the pressure from the pump along with the spring to control the pressure, like a pressure regulator in the valve body of a transmission. Kinda hard to explain, but i guess i'll just have to experiment and return with results...

Wouldnt restricting the preasure slow the response time? Let me know if you fiddle with this, seems like a good idea
