Re: possible to over-tighten honda timing belt?
the temtioner tighten the belt with a spring that is to small to get it the first time. so i set the timming and tighten the bolt. then i rotate the crank over a few times then loosen the bolt then retighten

Re: possible to over-tighten honda timing belt?
---- yeah it is possible to over tighten, youll break the fucker... there is also too loose...
what motor is it? if its a D or B the spring doesnt really do ----... what i do is put everything at TDC and ---- then back the crank backwards a little to tension the belt and tighten the tensioner bolt... then carefully crank it over once or twice and recheck it to make sure everything is still lining up at TDC still and that belt tension is still good... |
Re: possible to over-tighten honda timing belt?
i always just get the ---- TDC with the tensoner loose, turn the crank pulley conter clock wise like 2-3 turns then its tight, then i tighten the tensioner, and start the car and if it sounds fine i figure its ok, its on a b18b, ive done 3 ls motors and one d16 like this

Re: possible to over-tighten honda timing belt?
I've got a belt too tight on a Z6 and the fucker made a kinda whining moaned sound. So yes it's is very possible and easy to get it over tightened.

Manual says to set everything at TDC, then turn crank counter clockwise '3 teeth on cam gear', tighten tensioner.
