Ported Y8 head worth the effort?

Well I already bought the head and a spair Y8 intake and throttle body. This is to swap onto my Y7 in my 96 hatch. I torn it down and was going to port it. Then I got to thinking, is it really worth it? I just ordered a rebuilt super 60 and I am in the process of making a ram horn. I guess I was thinking I could sell the head and intake and buy some rods or something else. What are your guys opinions? Is the ported VTEC head gonna make a noticeable difference?

Thanks in advance
Dave

i think rods and pistons would make more of a difference. cuase then you can run some big boost. plus that super 60. im sure that it will make a differnce if you end up doing it though.

Yeah I already have the head but I may not have money for a while for rods and pistons. I guess I will just continue with the plan to Port and Polish it.

i would keep with the nonvtec head for simplicity plus like the other guy said, you could always just go pistons and rods if you plan to have a big nasty turbo setup

either way good luck sounds good 8)

I say port it only cause I"ve seen the amount of improvement you can do on a y8 head :)

Portmatch and polish it dude...trust me, it's worth the effort. Don't go too crazy, remember that aluminum is soft, and it's not that hard to take out a crazy huge chunk of it :-\ Also, here's an insider tip for around the venturi...don't knife-edge it, leave it kinda fat. I've tried both ways, and the fatter venturi actually flows more and faster on the flow bench. Kinda acts like an airplane's wing, forcing the air in. And remember...you can go smooth as glass on the exhaust side if you want, but keep the intake side rough, not too rough, but just rough enough for the intake charge to atomize properly 8)
