polished throttle body (56K can lick goats) *update*
 

Well, I was messin around with the 94 civic (D16Z6) and I thought I would check out the 16XXXX mile throttle body. It appeared really dirty,(common sense) so I thought I would pull the throttle body off and clean it up a bit. When I got it off, I decided what the hell, lets polish it, I thought it cant hurt it so...
and no, there is no turbo, im still workin on that.
Bacially, we just took off the throttle body, unscrewed the butterfly, polished the butterfly, then polished the body itself, then screwed the butterfly back in, and it the extra screw that stuck through to the other side, we chopped it off, so it would be a straight through flow. Then jermey knife edged the side that goes to the intake tube so it would flow a little better(idea) I am excited to see how it works...
I havent been able to drive it and see how it is, but here is the project...

The project: Polish the throttle body
Time: about 2.5hrs
Tools required: 12mm socket, ratchet, philips screw driver,a dremel tool, and some rags
Difficiculty: easy
Materials needed: new throttle body gasket(we made ours from gasket paper), polish, dremel polishing kit, aluminum polish
Cost: $10 for the polish kit from wal-mart. everything else we already had, if you already dont have everything you are looking to have about $20 in it all.

-so there is my first 'performance write up'
-I will update this probably tommorow when it all gets put back together.(we ran outa daylight)

I wouldnt polish anything over the butterfly seal area. Also becarful when modifing the shaft like that. Other than that there is really no big gain you are going to get from that. Increasing air flow will take enlarging the butterfly and boring out the throttle body. But I'd highly doubt you could feel any gains from just polishing ::)

Less like a project more like killing time...
We also found that a b16 TB that I have laying around will fit right on there and is about a 1/4" larger so we may put our dremel monkey to work and have him port match the intake manifold to the b16 TB.

Ohh and I'm the douche bag with the gloves on ;D

ahhh yes, it was out of complete bordom. but it was also an experiment, so we will see the outcome today when we put the pile back on the road. and yeah, tommytoes is a newb to the site, but he knows his ---- when it comes to hondas...

let us know how the idle is. has it changet at all. You also have to recalibrate the TPS sensor since you had it out, or did you just take the butterfly out and did not mess with the shaft at all. anyways looks good. 98ctr

The TPS wont have to be re-calibrated because I didnt move it, I just un-plugged it. The other TB that was in the picture was a B16 TB that tommytoes(tommy) had that he brought over. I never touched my TPS. But yeah, had I moved/removed it it would have to be re-calibrated. I will let everyone know how it is, Im about to go put it back on.

Well, Abaz was right, as usuall. I didnt really feel any power gains. I got a little better throttle response, but that is probably from it being so clean im thinkin. So was it worth it ::)

I would have to say the project started with complete bordom, it made for a fun day, and we didnt spend any money on it. So now everyone can go out and polish throttle bodies and not be bored on a saturday afternoon!
