pm7 pistons with stock rods in z6?

ok i want to build a high compression motor for my daily drive for just a little more power

my DD has 197k on it and at verry low revs when bliping the throttle slightly as the enging settles back and drops a little below normal idle i hear a slight rattle (low oil pressure @ low rpm.. little bit too much clearance on the old mortor..?)

anyway

would it be wise if i used the d16a1 piston and rod assembly

like them rods not gonna come out the side of the block at 7400rpm

clifs

will i run into ROD failure ?

d16a1 pm7 pistons and rods

in a d16z6

thanks guys

Guess and check when you have nothing else to go on.

Its been done a ton of times. The only problem is that you don't have to much quench(sp).

Edit its not really a problem, but not the best for making hp.

they work pretty good nice bump in comp.

Re: pm7 pistons with stock rods in z6?

The only time bearings will rattle or knock is when they're toast. I almost got a b18b that made lots of noise before pulling - I helped pull it apart, and I noticed pistson #2 & 3 would hover 1/8" before TDC. How it still ran w/o seizing is beyond me.

With a MLS gasket, you'd end up with ~12:1 cr. You'd want to manually retard the timing a bit, or put in a modded P28 basemap with less timing. It might be a stretch on 87 octane. PM3 (D15) or PG6 (D16A1) pistons would get you in the 10-10.5:1 range, respectively, and up to 11.2:1 if you go crazy with a 1-layer head gasket, or mill the head.

Re: pm7 pistons with stock rods in z6?

i will be tuning it myself!.. im thinking of reducing the timming by 30% everywhere and start from there

Mill the head best 50 bucks you can ever spend on a all motor D build.

sohc zc non vtec
b16a throttle body modified to fit sohc zc intake manifold/ported manifold
bolt ons
30 off the head
zc/si transmission

b16a killer

similiar project will be going on with my brothers 98 hatch, good luck

Henson87 04-22-2009 09:13 PM

If you truely want a daily driven pump gas friendly build stick to 11.1 compression and you will be a ok

Henson87 04-22-2009 09:14 PM

what ecu program will you plan on running?

jdmontheway 08-21-2009 10:57 PM
