pistons & rods install?

:-\I have very little mechanical experience. And I have a second d16 block, I wanted to install arias pistons and eagle rods. How difficult is it to install and what tools would I need?

start to learn how to maintain the engine with basic maintanance first.....and read the shop manuals it's all in there.

youll need to notch your block for the rods, by advice is, if you are doling out the cash for internals, have them installed by a professional.

And no i don't have the cash but wanted to be safe and invest in pistons and rods. I wanted to learn to install them because i wanted to save the money from the labor.

Re:pistons & rods install?

im goin to high jack this post.....What about machine work? I have the knowledge in swapping out the pistons and rods thats really not a problem. but on Hybrid Honda they did a piston/head swap while the engine was still in the car, and he didnt have the head or deck shaved to make sure it will be flat what did he use to be sure of that?.I have a 2000 gsr engine in my 95 teg, and a take very good care of it and baby it when i take it out.wouldnt it be nesesary to have it machined anyway? i can do the swap (pistons/rods/rings)while the engine is in on a lift at the shop i work at.

Check if the head isn't warped and that it's straitgh...you can read all that in a shop manual.
If your engine hasn't overheated ever in it's life...it propably isn't warped....but who knows

Re:pistons & rods install?

the biggest thing when changing pistons/rods isn't the head/deck surface. It's the piston bore. You have to either get it matched to the bore size or bore it to match the piston. Then it has to be re-honed to create a new surface for the rings to break in.
