Piston slap ??? forged pistons ???
I have a 1st gen B16. I bought my CRX with the swap in it a little over a year ago, and have since had to do a lot of manitneance work on it. Havent take head off or anything and seen the pistons.....
When my engine is Ice cold (hasnt run in over 3 hours), it runs and sounds like ----; literally. I hate it But once it warms up to where the temp needle moves up a lil bit its fine. I never get on it until its near full temp though and I dont drive unless it is warmed up. Is this normal? Do forged pistons act this way? Do all 1st gen B16A's act this way? its realy been bothering me lately. TIA! |
Re:Piston slap ??? forged pistons ???
old school arias pistons were very loud. Can you be more specific. Have you done basic leakdown/compression test etc.
|
Re:Piston slap ??? forged pistons ???
you want a warm or cold compresion test?
|
Re:Piston slap ??? forged pistons ???
Are the pistons forged? Stock B16's certainly shouldn't slap, but yes forged pistons do. Is it burning oil? That's strange if it's a stock motor.

Re:Piston slap ??? forged pistons ???
Not burning oil. I ave an oil leak from my oil pan but thast besides the point.....
no oil burning here. It just runs horribly first thing in the morning or after a few hours. ??? |
Re:Piston slap ??? forged pistons ???
??????
I can do a compression test tomorrow. Should I do it cold since that it when I have that messed up noise? I'll try it once it warmed up as well. How "warm" does it need to be? should I just let it run for liek 2 minutes then do the compression test? will it be "warm" enough then? |
Re:Piston slap ??? forged pistons ???
Chris, as far as you know, they "should" be stock pistons, right?
|
Re:Piston slap ??? forged pistons ???
its not a big deal unless it doesnt go away. On very cold mornings its normal, esp for forged pistons
|
Re:Piston slap ??? forged pistons ???
I just did a warm compresison test. I will be able to get a cold one in a few days. I have work too early in the morning to do a cold test tomorrow or the next day.
results in numerical order: 220 220 220 240 I also have a lil oil on teh threadsd of my spark plugs. Whast up with that? |
