piston questions
so when i get paid i'm gonna look for some pistons, really haven't looked into internals before so just woundering what brands are decent and aren't too much money(i've heard bout vitaras, just want to know my other options)? I'm looking to spend around $200-$250 or so. also since i have a sohc zc vtec motor what pistons should i look for that would fit my motor (d16z6? d16y8? etc)? Last question, since #3 is the one giving me problems, i'm going to rehone and i'm guessing i should do it to all 4, but after rehoneing, should i look for stock bore pistons? or something a little over? i've already tried asking johnny these questions and he said to shoot these to everyone at hmt, so answer up
thanks in advance |
Re: piston questions
vitaras and fjt rods.

Re: piston questions
rehone != rebore
i sure hope you wouldn't need oversized after just a simple rehone. get a caliper and measure up cowboy. a little over is probably going to be 75.5mm and that .5mm makes a damn big difference when clearences are in the tens of thousands of an inch on some things. id imagine just make sure your gap is good to go on your rings when you install and use standard bore pistons. building a motor is different every time you do one, so you might want to do some more reading. |
Re: piston questions
giving you problems how? get out the calipers and do a piston vs wall sizing.

Re: piston questions
calipers O0 ruler ftw
seriously i would never use calipers on engines, only for a quick reference check ,not accurate enough i would use a good pair of mics/ dial bore gauge or intramics |
Re: piston questions
Honda cylinders are known for being egg shaped from the factory, so IMO I'd go oversized

Re: piston questions
for what its worth, i've got a z6 block im tearin down as soon as finals start, and i'm going to go ahead and do .5mm over just to start fresh. of course it might see some decent boost if all goes well. haven't even looked at compression or anything yet, but the clock says 210k so im bettin it needs it.

Re: piston questions
i highly doubt honda ever produced cylinders that were egg shaped from the factory, i know the cylinders love to go egg shaped because there is no front to back support hence the reason for block guards/ filling, my d16 with 80,000 miles was out of honda tolerance

Re: piston questions
haha, well i can't wait to see what the d16z6 in my coupe looks like with 240k on the clock. i just bought it for 300 bucks and i think its gonna get a auto to manual conversion, fjt custom i beams, vitaras (probably oversize but i'll have to check), arp studs, and then plenty of boost.
