why would you take one apart?

I just check to be sure the 6mm bolts are tight and slap it in.

Those washers are just to limit noise, thats all.

To make sure everything is torqued down properly.

QC for obx sucks.

Plus, it's not hard taking one apart and putting it back together.

unless the bolts break off, like others have had done.

Nothing inside to torque down anyways, all bolts are external......

I had to take mine apart; it was an early unit and would not release passenger axles.

So with the new generation obx lsd all that has to be done is to make sure there tight, but what should be the torque.

Look at the date on the posts, then listen:

If you want to put the OBX LSD into "generations" here's your guide:

First generation: mine, where the LSD had to be disassembled and bevelled so that axles would release. Great unit in all other respects.
Second generation: Great unit.
Third generation: Been sold for ~approx the last year, piece of ------- ----. Welcome to china parts, the one thing they get right turns to ----.

This is the general thing with obx units with most makes and models. Alot of guys just bevel the edges on their axles and/or dont run c-clips on the stubs that pop into the diff. There's always the issue of possibly leaking gear oil out by doing that but it shouldn't be enough to be scared about.

Helical is better than that phantom slip ---- block of fail wedged in between your spider gears. Next best thing to a quaife. Was going to buy one for the eclipse but i dropped that ---- like a bad habbit. Now i'm rwd and going welded while i raise funds to rebuild my oem clutch type lsd that came in the car. MMMMM, clutch chatter. People are going to look at me all the time like my car is broken when i turn in somewhere going slow. Lol!

I'd say run the helical (what are you doing with it btw?). A 1.5 way kaaz might be just the ticket when you have $800 to burn and plan on doing alot of track stuff.

Personally, i'd google around to figure out what will suit you best but for now, an obx is just up your alley. I've heard things like what jd was talking about. Also about those concave washers breaking. There are industrial hardware companies that sell these washers (i forget what they're called, belleville i think) but you have to buy them in bulk. Like 100 units at a time. Dont know much other than that and what's already been posted.

Hrm, I might know something about the 4 different generations since it was me who started picking them apart.

1, 2, 2.5, 3.
