Overheating problem
 

My brothers car is having a overheating problem. It's 94 eclipse non turbo, sohc, 5speed. He replaced the thermostat and the cooling fan does come on. It seems that the anti-freeze boils over into the overflow tank all the time, we've flushed it out before but it still overheats and loses antifreeze. I was thinking that putting a thicker radiator in, one out of a turbocharged eclipse because those are about 1/4" thicker then what he has in there. I was wounder if you have any other suggestions on what could be wrong or cuasing this to happen. Thanks.

does it boil or does it bubble?
you could have a dead water pump. stick a gardain hose in the filler, and open the dreain. turn on water hose and turn on car. good way to flush the system. maybee your system needs flushing.

He replace the pump about 2-3 years ago, might have to check that out. Not sure if it bubles or boils ill have to check it when he brings it over at 6pm tonite then ill be able to say. If the headgasket was toast wouldn't it mix with the oil? We don't have that problem i checked. Thanks for the help, ill try flushing the system out and install the thicker radiator. Then if that doesn't work ill change out the water pump i've got one laying around.

Make sure both hoses (top and bottom/in and out) are getting hot. Might have blockage, air pockets, bad thermostat, etc...

If you're circulating, maybe you have a bad pump or a leak elsewhere. Check your exhaust for smoke and the engine bay for leaks. And just because it's easy and cheap, replace your rad. cap too.

nooonnee ever wants to admit there hg is toast....do a compression test. then kill yoursel;f and for the love of god do not listen to anything kain says.

I don't mind adminting the HG is gone i just figured the antifreeze would mix with the oil. I was going to but i don't have a compression tester...Whats wrong with doing what kain says?

My bro also says it overflows on the overflow tank. He thinks its a senor, if it was a senor then the check engine light would be on but it's not. I don't see it leaking for the HG but oil is definatly is. Either way the car is a piece of ----, i had the car running for almost a half hour at 3-4K rpm's and it didn't over heat at all so he must have a leaking problem the we just don't see or its the HG which is more then likely.

It's the head gasket. Air/fuel from the combustion chamber is being pushed into the coolant passageways and that's why coolant is overflowing. Just because oil/water do not mix doesn't mean you don't have a blown headgasket, there are different ways a hg can blow out.
