Original Si or DOHC ZC?

Quick story on my car. 88 CRX Si...paid $200, spent $200 in parts and it ran fine until the oil pump quit. The motor was totally abused by the previous owner...he actually cut the timing cover so he could see the stock gear, then ignored the cracked t-belt which broke. He tore it ALL apart in a uneducated attempt to remove the "bad" motor. After 3 months his mom said it had to go. He said make an offer and I had $200 on me. Back to the oil pump... it quit slowly over a week, but the motor never was as strong anyway, much slower then 2 other crx's I ran against for comparison (honest). So instead of rebuilding, I'm replacing, but not before blowing it up ;D. Did you know you can go 236 miles with a spun bearing before it grenades <---(that's the sound it makes!) and sends a rod through to see the light??? I do now LOL! Ok, enough story... I can buy the complete original for $495 shipped to any US door (JDM SI 30-40K on motor), or the dohc ZC for just a $100 more (JDM 30-40K on motor). I do plan on going turbo but want to know what motor handles boost better. Thanks for any ideas.

I'd say find a good used shortblock and save yourself $300. :-\

I have always had a special place in my heart for the dohc zc. I would get that. Strongest rods of the D's. You're swapping the motor anwyay you might as well. But, Boost is right, if you're strapped for cash a new shortblock will run you under $100.

Not totally strapped, I have about $600 to spend... unless you know someone who has an extra b16 they dont want. ;) I'll probably give the old head away.

where you located? 600 for a ZC is a lot and so is 500 for a stock replacement.

Stock $495 shipped to my door, DOHC ZC $595 shipped to my door. Completely tested and cleaned. Is that still expensive?

shipped ain't bad, don't know how much it really costs to ship a motor. Where are you located? If soCal, you can go pick one up for cheaper.

if you got that much money, get another 1.6 sohc block, aftermarket rods, and pistons, and you'll still have enough money for some turbo stuff.
