open wastegate or routed internal

so I'm wondering what difference it would make if my wastegate was routed back into the exhaust. I am thinking I might want to keep it quite and jsut shoot iinto the exhaust instead of to the pavement. how do yall run and what are some proc and cons to think about.

some claim that rerouting back will lead to turbulence and power loss but its has been proven repeatedly on the dyno that if you merge it smoothly and at least 20 inches down the pipe it will be fine and have no effect
it will significantly quiet down your post wastegate noise

Nice. I think I have like 12-18 inches of pipe, so it looks like its going to the road for now.

Re: open wastegate or routed internal

I had open downpipe, and i loved it... i ran 23 lbs of boost on a .63 trim t3/to4e on my built D.

When i hit full boost around 5800rpm, it sounded like i was hittin vtec... :S

I loved when the wastegate opened up. ( i had it dumped straight down beside my 3" dowpipe/exhaust). However, when i had my 2.25" DP with wastegate dump routed INTO the downpipe... i had it at a 90* going in cuz i sucked at welding at the time.... It was whisper quiet! Almost as quiet as a stock civic. I liked it, but i like the open downpipe now. As long as you have the vaccuum lines hooked up to a BOOST ONLY source, and not vaccuum, then your wastegate will not be open under vaccuum with that loud ass gurgle. (Think of the orange rx7 from FF3) The gurgle that car had was a vaccuum source that went to the wastegate rather than just a Boost source.

I get my boost only source from a nipple on my charge pipes. (think BEFORE throttle body.. hence no vaccuum)

I've ran it open and routed back. It's really personal preference. I actually had it hooked up so i could vent it or not depending on the mood i was in O0

Open wastegates sound like ----, I don't care what anyone says. If you have an exhaust on the car, route it into that.

Open downpipes on the other hand, sound awesome.

I ran a single 50mm wastegate on my twin turbo setup and i loved it not routed into my exhaust. i thought it sounded ------ wicked when it opened. its really a preference if u like loud exahust or quiet pretty much.----, man ------ cut a hole in ur d.p. route it with flex pipe and if u dont like it, weld a ------ plate on it and dump that bitch! lol

I like it routed back. The sound of the turbo at full boost is better than the sound of the atmospheric dump.
