OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!
OK, WTF!?
The only thing I can think is that the already bad throwout bearing got demolished on the pressure plate. Is it possible that a throwout bearing shreading to peices could punch a hole in the bell? There is oil everywhere, and the tranny was fine until I put the Stage 3 in.. Another possibility is I put too much oil in it maybe? I didn't think "too much" was a problem. I filled it until it started coming out of the hole. COuld that have been it? Stupid L3!!! >:( |
Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!
Could be. You have to fill it to just below the hole.

Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!
maybe its too much boost!! ;D

Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!

Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!
Ouch, my guess one of the forks broke and punctured the case, lol..
I sold a SI tranny to dustin, and he did the same thing, put some ACT clutch in, and the thing gernaded. But I've had my share of blown L3's :-\ Jeff |
Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!
does the trani still move your car?
|
Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!
Ya.. it still drives fine.. until I am going, and ride the tranny when I let off the gas. It starts making a very loud clicking sound. and I can feel grinding in my clutch pedal.

Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!
man get off the road. u have broken something inside and its rattling around.
its gonna get caught in the diff and away she goes, tow truck time. |
Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!
my hf tranny did that like 3 years ago... it ended up being that the shaft that the throw out bearing rides on cracked.
rip it appart and check it out. scarponze |
Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!
yeah mine did that and my spider gears fell out hit the diff and put a hole in the side.
needless to say that was a big clunk! |
Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!
Ok, tranny is actually fine ([me=TurboEF9]prays to the L3 preservation Gods). What happend was my buddy that I was teaching how to put the clutch and flyhweel in.. DIDN'T TORQUE THE FRIGGIN' FLYWHEEL!!!!![/me]
We pulled all the tranny bolts, and pulled the tranny away from the block.. and the flywheel fell out! >:( Oh well.. Lesson learned: DON'T LET ANYONE TOUCH YOUR CAR BUT YOURSELF!!! --------------------- Oh, forgot.. the oil all came from the overflow hose that hangs over the clutch cable level.. put too much in, hehehe. ;D |
Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!
sounds like some1 should teach him!!! LOL

Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!

Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!
Well, it sort of stretched the holes a bit..
This second, he only helped hold things. I did the drop myself and made sure everything was OK. As far as the stretched holes, they don't seem to be causing an issue yet.. but who knows what the future will bring. |

Your situation is not too uncommon.
Recently a friend of mine built a B16 for someone. A few days later at the races the owner was doing a burnout and then all everyone heard was knock knock knock. We all immediately thought, rod knock. The car got towed back to the shop, tranny ripped off and sure enough the flywheel bolts were all loose. To make sure they stay in place I use thread locker "red". Glad to hear the tranny is fine. |
Re:OK, Stage 3 CM + Light weight Flywheel + Boost = Tranny go Boom!
Dude that does suck, but at least the tranny is still good. Even though ya didn't bolt on the flywheel, free help is hard to find! :P
