oil pressure zero at idle

i dont know if this is normal or what but when i come to stop my oil pressure drops to zero. but when im driving the highest it goes is 70??? is that normal or should i raise my idle a lil bit so it'll have some pressure. i dont know if oil is supposed to be moving at idle. but im sure its supposed to move to lube the parts n what not. but if anyone knows what im talking about could u let me know. thanks ;)

Re:oil pressure zero at idle

you shold have 5-10 psi at idle, not zero.

sounds like your bearings are shot...how many miles on the motor?

Re:oil pressure zero at idle

would sparaic oil pressure be the same diagnose? idle mines rock sold 15psi.. cruising it bounces from 60-100

bad oil pump, while your at it get a timing belt and tensioner and water pump.

Re:oil pressure zero at idle

god damn it..that sucks..it used to be at 10 at idle...i was just driving around the other day i come to a light and i look at my gauge and its at zero. im like wtf. but if i give it a lil bit of gas and let it sit at like 800rpms it goes to about 15 psi. u think my idle is just a tad bit low???...should i just raise the idle a bit and see what happens? car still runs the same....miles on the motor shoot well the car has 210k. i just got the car not so long ago..but i traded with a friend and the motor was rebuilt like 30 or 40k miles ago...not a full rebuild. just replaced the rings n ----. nothing else.

ok.. O-I-L-P-U-M-P... i bet it is that. replace it.

Re:oil pressure zero at idle

think so?. damn that thing is a bitch to replace. but i think u might be right because i saw some oil leakage coming from that area running down my oilpan. not real bad just a lil bit. thanks onyx

Re:oil pressure zero at idle

my car idles at like 600. the pressure while im driving is at like 70 psi. and when i start my car in the morning its at like 83 psi. its only like this when the car is warm.i dont know somebody let me know

Re:oil pressure zero at idle

I would at least bump the idle up to 750-850 to be a little safer.

Re:oil pressure zero at idle

recommended idle is 750.
