Oil light flashing on and off wtf?

Like the title says, I have a 95 prelude with an h23 in it. only sometimes does it do it but when it does its after the engine has warmed up and at idle it starts flashing. With a oil pressure guage hooked up to it, it shows almolst 45psi of oil pressure at idle when its cool so what gives???

edit: I know the flashing oil light means "temporary loss of oil pressure" but why, theres a new sending unit in it still does it.

I've heard of some contacts on the back of the cluster might be bad or some crap?

45 when cold, but what about when it warms up?

I dont know, but it its fine cold the pump has gotta be fine right? this thing only has 130,000 on it but it was sitting for a while maybe a year or more without being run.

Not necessarily. Check the pressure when hot.

pump could be fine, bearings could be toast. Or it could all be fucked. Or it could all be fine...but id bet against it if the dummy light has been flashing

I dont think a loose connection would do it. Switch is normally closed so any breaks in the wiring couldn't turn the light on. I forgot to connect mine once and the light just never came on even when the engine wasn't running.

ditto

normally open

if you've got a fucked up idle, (low/rough idle) the rpm's might be falling low enough that the pump doesn't generate quite enough pressure.

you need a gauge on there so you can check it through it's paces, otherwise it's just a bunch of useless guessing.

same thing happens in my corolla, i got a new switch but its too much of a bitch to replace it so i said ---- it. i wanted to hook up a gauge but toyota made the treads in the oil pressure switch hole to be 3/8'' british nominal pipe threat, i spent forever looking for it and i finally called the stealership and they said they just put in a new oil pressure switch and monitor it from there. :7

yeah i would say that too. also check your oilpan see if its dented this caused that on mine, also if your oil is too thin for some reason. i got water in my oil from the breather on the VC and then vtec wouldn't engage and the light flashed.

don't ignore it though.
