OIL In Cyl #3 - SparkPlugs Coverred - Smokes A Little, Need Diagnosis

This is a brand new rebuilt d16a6 motor, total bottom end is 100% new with new parts, the head is completely built and was previously used for 4500 miles and then slapped on my motor.
The car ran great for the first 3K or so Ive had it and just recently I noticed that after the car is fully warmed up and you go for a drive. Come to a stop or slow down hard, the car will kind of billow smoke. Not to heavy but enough to surround the car and into the cabin a bit.
Smelt like burning oil so I pulled the plugs, sure enough #3 was SOAKED, a good 1/2 teaspoon all up the threads and on the tip of the plug.

I did some research and found that the valve cover gromets like to fail on people, picked up a brand new set and threw em in, didnt work.

Now this problem doesnt seem to be constant, the car has gone a day before without smoking, but today it smoked at almost every full stop.

It will not smoke if you start the car up from cold and let it idle, no smoke at all.

Im lost on what it could be or how I could fix it.

if your burning oil it doesnt matter what kind it is,
start with a compresin test of all four cylenders and see if one (#3) is lower
if it is try putting some oil in the cylender then recheck it, if it goes up your rings are gone
it could be a lot of things but start with that

Well Theres oil on the dam threads of the spark plug, to me that mens its coming from the top.... right?

I did just replace the valve cover orings though so I cant see that being the problem, would teflon do anything there or would it just burn up?

if new seals didnt change it dont try it have assed and hope for a better result, do the compresion test, if it was getting from above your plugs to the cylender where its burning your plug would of blown out

unless you have a seriously fucked up head, and the spark plug hole gromets on the valve cover are good, then it's not coming from there. do what everyone else has told you and do a compression/leakdown test and work from there

I only have a complression tester but I'll try and figure out how to use it tonight

remove plugs, kill power to the ecu and dist, turn over engine (using the starter) until guage on compression tester stops moving.

I do it with the engine somewhat warm still for best results.

Compression Test Results - 130 - 130 - 130 - 130
Damn that made me smile seeing those numbers , whether they mean something or not

I really would like to know how oil is getting all over my dam spark plug though

Re: OIL In Cyl #3 - SparkPlugs Coverred - Smokes A Little, Need Diagnosis

130, thats really really low, are you doing the lest with @ WOT? make sure you do it at WOT and make sure you don't have your injectors praying.

ITs an A6 with vitara pistons, yes the numbers will be low

I do think my injecotrs were spraying though, kinda smelt like fuel. All I did was pull the plugs and remove the ecu chip form my ecu, how do you disable them?

Re: OIL In Cyl #3 - SparkPlugs Coverred - Smokes A Little, Need Diagnosis

Well I went out for a drive, I noticed that the car seems to smoke when the oil pressure is higher.... maybe that would be obvious?

But, like I said, it only smokes on hard decel and idle, when the car warmed up and idle pressure was under 25psi (around 23) the car didnt smoke at all, I did quite a few stops frequently just to check it out, didnt smoke once.

Maybe I should just lower my oil pressure significantly for a temp fix until winter when I can tear the motor apart? Wonder what I could do to get the pressure way day, if its feasible

take a grinder to your rod bearings

lol

I think I'll find a less work involved method

Some dam thin oil should probably help
