OH NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! My engine just MELTED in the FIRE!!!!!!
 

hey guys I was installing the new pistons today and using the cheap ring compressor I got from auto zone it didn't hold the ring tight enough as it went into the cylinder and broke a chunk out of the ring about a 1/4 in long right at the gap!!! I'm not sure what to do. the pistons/rings are Wiseco and the ring that broke is the Top ring. My bro suggested to just go to Honda tomorrow(sat) and just pick up a standard 81 mm bore ring for my Ls/Vtec, but I measured the old factory top ring(around 100-150K miles on them) and they were different sizes. The Micrometer said they are the same thickness but when I measured the difference between where it contacts the piston (inside the grove) to where it contacts the cylinder wall the factory rings are 10 thousandths smaller than the Wiseco's. After a Full out tear down and rebuild I don't want to run the risk of blow by!!! He thinks it still might be ok to go with the Honda ring but I say as much as it suck's wait till Wednesday since Wiseco isn't open over the weekend :( and put the right stuff in there. As much as it suck's, I just started the Ins. after being w/out a car for the last 3months and this car for the last 6 month's... She'd have been running tonight if not for this, put it on the road and all :'( . I know it's better to just wait and have Wiseco send me a new ring and wait till next week to be rollin' than to go with Honda and run the risk of blow by... what do you guys think?

id just buy another ring from wiseco, id want to be running all the same rings personally.

that's exactly how I feel. Nomatter what would happen after she's back together it would ALWAYSE bother me just knowing. Plus the fact that the Honda ring isn't as wide as the Wiseco's might mean that it could have blow by in my opinion. I've got TOOO much money and TIME into this to skinch now! I mean really.... what's a few more days to wait when I've only got about 4 more hours till the engine's ready to be dropped into the car, and have that soundness of mind?

I figure too, Wiseco cant' really be any more than Honda wants for a single ring. I'll just have to wait a few more days to finish her up. I'm pissed and just got owned probably the worst I ever have ( the bottom end was alll built but I just wanted to slide the piston up just high enough to check the top ring to make sure that that one's was on right side up when she broke :'( :'( :'() but gotta say, I mise well make the best of the situation by lookin at it as now I have the whole weekend to relax and take it easy and enjoy. There's nothing I can do about it so I mise well look at the other side of it....... :-\

that's the first half way competant post I've seen from gayrex yet. Ya know, if ya race your gonna break stuff that's how it goes, and alot of things come up with friends cars that I post up questions about on here.

I guess theres no need to worry now! yesterday(sunday,May 15th my dad's garage and house caught on fire and burnt, along with my engine/ tranny and ALL my other crap inside there! My WHOLE Damn engine is melted! and I j - u - s - t got done rebuilding it!!!!!!!! the tranny is melted, i think my new clutch is shot?... the only think that was fine is the 93 civic which was the CHEAPEST OF ALL MY LOSSES! and tha's because it was in the drive way and the rear bumper got melted on that. If some one would be kind enough to tell me how to post pics then I'll post them. It really sucks too because I just put it on the road legally last friday... broke the ring so I didn't drop it in, just found out about the fire today... and was gonna drop it in on Wednesday! Man this sucks!!!!!!! :'( :'( :'(
