OBX LSD carnage, time for Quaiffe

don't know what caused it, if its the broken axle or is the axle that went first.
yesterday I decided to take a couple of long autobahn runs after a while my car started vibrating like I have a flat so I pulled over to check it out tires and suspension is ok. continued to drive hoping to get home, a 300 km trip, I made it home ok.

all the bolts snapped that holds diff together, the thing thats wierd about it I removed the broken pieces without using a drill or tap, just my fingers. I can put it back together but don't think I can find these bolts in Germany. grade 12.9 allen. can hardly find grade 8 bolts here without ordering them for a specific car.
so I am thinking of ordering a quaiffe or Mfactory, but I am worried that the Mfactory is gonna be the same quality as the OBX for $300 less than a Quaffe. at the same time I need some DSS axles, will hit up Tuner toys first thing tomarow, hope he can get me these by the end of the week for less than his list price. man that over $1600 this ---- sucks. first race is april 30.

I am really undecided right now.
QUAIFFE is my number 1 choice, but I am sick of over priced parts that claims lifetime warranty and don't honor them. and from what I am reading Quaiffe is one.

Mfactory don't know much about them. don't wanna be the first to try it. everyone I know uses Quaiffe.

OBX is done in my book. even though I can repair and use the one I have. the fact is it broke.

which sponsor carries both these company products? also DSS. I need some level 2.9 axles

------- editing rules sucks.
I think I am gonna go with the Mfactory seems like best bang for the buck. the review I read may have been biassed but it seems like a well refined product.

I love my quaife I have not had a prob out of it. And I have friends making 500 600 horse on turbo cars with them and no prob bust trannys and just swap the quaife out

rudebwoy 04-12-2009 01:25 PM

I really would like a quaiffe but I am worried about their warranty issues. and compared to the price. Mfactory is the best right now. I read a review on H-T comparing all 3 and mfactory was nice. and claim to stand by their products. I will call before I place my order.

I have heard very good things about Mfactory. I plan to get one very soon

anela44 04-12-2009 02:51 PM

I am thinking about buying MFactory too but need more inf on the diff.

anela44 04-12-2009 02:52 PM

For the price MFactory seems a good choice but I heard alot of good things about Quaife. I heard that they stand behind there warranty.

i_heart_my_ef 04-12-2009 03:32 PM

Quaife top me that they would replace my whole tranny if it was a diff prob.

anela44 04-12-2009 03:44 PM

One of my friends broke his Quaife and Quaife replaced it no questions asked!

I am reading about that they have a new distributor that raise the prices and really crappy about warranty. all my friends run quaiffe, but none of them drives like me.
you have no idea what I go through being stationed overseas, they are happy to sell the products, but when it comes to warranty they don't honor overseas customers. whats the difference? I am so sick of this I am about to leave the game. buy a expensive product it broke and they blame the customer.

Nice review on the diffs!!!!!!!!!!!!

anela44 04-12-2009 04:15 PM

I think the MFactory would be a good buy for the price!!!!!!!!!!!

grade '8' is an SAE grade, 12.9 is a metric grade. Totally different. You should be able to order them from a fastener supply company.

OH! I see! now I know why German bolts snaps so easy. its like they are made of aluminum. misjudging the grade.

SOHCKLR657 04-13-2009 07:15 AM

you need some arps for that sum bitch

rudebwoy 04-13-2009 02:56 PM

just placed my order for the Mfactory LSD. price including differential bearings, 3rd-5th gear synchros, and drain plug. still came out $250 less than the quaiffe including shipping.
now wish me luck on getting these parts in before the 30th of april.

I just got an offer for set of new DSS level 3.9 axles with hubs for 700 euros. convert to dollars $940 . I am still contemplating if I should get them or just go with a set of level 2.9.

rudebwoy 04-13-2009 03:59 PM

trying to call tuner toys since friday. no answer I don't like placing online orders without knowing item are in stock.

kwikcoupe 05-11-2009 05:55 PM

sorry to hear about the troubles but just a question. do you think 100% that the problem with your obx was the bolts breaking or stretching? Im just curious, Ive got a quaife myself and am glad I read i thread. i havent heard any bad things about them till now. Good luck

DraginX 05-11-2009 06:13 PM

Am I the only one to see that is it pretty obvious why those bolts broke... You said you have a broken shaft. You also said you felt a vibration like a flat tire pulled over checked your tires then drove 300 kms home like that. I would place money that you did break a shaft, and the vibration because of it on the drive home snapped off those bolts. Personally I would replace the bolts and re-use the OBX diff. I made over 500whp with my OBX diff. and did multiple HARD launches just to beat the hell out of it and never once had a problem with it. Sorry for your luck but I'm sure you are going to spend alot of money for no reason when all you need is those bolts for a few dollars... Hell PM me the measurements on them and I'll see what I can find for you.

gti_integra 05-21-2009 03:10 PM

that suck i would stick with the ODX diff also

DraginX 05-21-2009 06:47 PM

Any update on this, did you buy a quafie, or stick with the obx? If you go quafie and want to sell the obx let me know my brother might possibly be interested.

turbo750 06-03-2009 08:20 PM

interested in selling it.
