OBX LSD bearings ?'s
Ok I ditched my M2B4 LSD and got a OBX unit since I cant find a ring gear for the OEM unit. I need two bearing to put on it and a vehilcle speed gear from my OEM unit.
HOW DO I GET THE VSS gear off the diff? How do I safely get the bearings off to possible save some money since they look mint? Helpful answers would be sweet at this point in time |
Re: OBX LSD bearings ?'s
they are probably pressed on and destroyed when removed

Re: OBX LSD bearings ?'s
if you post pics, i'll walk you through getting the bearings off, if its possible, since i work in a machine shop :)

Re: OBX LSD bearings ?'s
Pictures are the sme as they are on the majectic site they are pressed on and I measured with a feeler gauge I only have a 3.23mm gap. I know of known steel that has a stress laevel at that toleralce even 40/30 chromeoly at my work place. ANY OTHER IDEAS
I'm so JEWISH AT THIS POINT |
Re: OBX LSD bearings ?'s
I work t AISIN USA we have 2 die maint shops and 4 machine shops. I can get it done maybe but we are talking about pwople who dont care really, just job related that they care about. I have access to 4 22ton arbor hydraulic presses but even with the tool steel I dont think it has the stress level to withstand the removal of the VSS ring. Bearing care less ,, know how fast I'm going top of the list

Re: OBX LSD bearings ?'s
Yeah only thing that was broken in it was the spider gear on the passenger side of the diff. Rest of internals are mint

Re: OBX LSD bearings ?'s
the speed gear we just used a lot of heat becuz you cant just buy one! we got it off pretty cleanly and then just went with honda oem bearings
|
Re: OBX LSD bearings ?'s
You what....torch ed it and then what....details please
|
Re: OBX LSD bearings ?'s
just use a normal bearing splitter, apply some tension and itll come off.
Heat helps.....but I've never needed it. |
Re: OBX LSD bearings ?'s
we couldnt get a splitter big enough for the vss gear so we propane torched it and went around it and lightyl pryed and tapped it off and i kept it hot enough and it just slipped right onto the obx lsd unit.

Re: OBX LSD bearings ?'s
Got my trans together and with the bearings on, Used a mallot and used the Balance shaft pulley to use as a spacer to mallot them on. HEPLFUL TIP FOR THE H AND F GUYS. Got the LSD in and the trans together with a .65 shim tolerance. HT played helpful " sorry NEegrooos" but it any who, it's together and when I put into neutral and spin the shaft its clean no knocking or resistance. SHWEEEW........ Bone thanks again and the -----BOR FREIGHT would not take a return "ON SALE" bolting the trans to the block tomorrow and going to wait till next week for the snow to melt to do several 180's and then drain and put a 30/70 blend of lucas/HONDA ATF fluid in it. AND BDVT I got the RP fluids on stas by after the motor is in and the whole set-up is reasy to fire up
JUST TO LET YOU -----S KNOW WE are in a BLIZZARD EFFECT WARNING in INDIANA got a meeer 7 inches. weather forecasters are so wrong on the Boob tube. Snow drifts are a MO FO. has to drive the 9mpg Bronco |
