obd0 to 0bd1 conversion gone wrong!

Hey all I have a obd1 vtec ecu, obd1 non vtec dizzy, conversions harness for ecu and dist, when i try to start the car it cranks but no start, all i hear i some popping sounds out the exhaust and the smell of fuel, maybe no ignition? i have the spark plug wires on right can you use a non vtec dist with a vtec motor i have a d16z6 jdm. Any help would be great thanks~!

Its hard to say without being there, sounds like ignition, make sure you have all the plug wires in the correct places.

sounds like you switched the to two crank angle sensors this will retard you timing pretty bad i heard. I had a problem with my obd0 to obd1 swap turned out to be lose wires. or more or less me just trying to ghetto rig it by pushing the wires in the pin hole to make it run. this does not work you must repine it properly lol

ok ill check rywire wiring and yea i had the plug wires correct. can you use a non vtec obd1 dist or does it have to be vtec?

Isnt this just common sense? vtec dizzy for a vtec engine, non vtec dizzy for non vtec engine..?

Re: obd0 to 0bd1 conversion gone wrong!

depends on the engine. on d's some you can use either like the obd2 dizzy on say a d16y7 and a d16y8 are the same but say you step back to a d16z6 I am not sure about. but I do know that a y8 or y7 dizzy will not work right without major mods and it just plain sucks! so it's not always a case of non vtec with non vtec or vise versa.

Re: obd0 to 0bd1 conversion gone wrong!

Any obd1 dizzy will work with a obd1 ecu. I used to run a 92 accord dizzy on my z6 that had the mounts hacked up lol. Are you positive you have the dizzy wires wired correctly? They aren't an exact color match from obd0 to obd1, so if that's what you did, that's your problem. Otherwise it sounds like firing order is incorrect, or number 1 is starting off on the wrong spot on your cap. Easiest way to tell for that, bring cyl 1 to top dead, pop off the cap and see where the rotor's pointing.

first off you need to use the VTEC distributor.

No, you don't...I used an obd1 f22 dizzy on my z6 just cause I had one laying around. Only difference is mounting bolt pattern.

i got a great idea, how bout check for spark instead of blaming dizzy wiring. and RECHECK FIRING ORDER.

if that doesnt help burn the car. by the way, all D series dizzy's have the same bolt pattern w/ the exception of the obd1 vtec motors. they are differant than the rest.

there is no way you could have fucked it up. only way is if you put the wires on wrong or you depinned the dizzy plug and fucked that up somehow.

did mine this past week. OBD0-OBD1 with a z6 and started right up..no problems. check your dizzy and re check your wiring.

since you are using a non-vtec dist on the z6 motor i would assume the mounts are all hacked up and im sure you've got it adjusted WAY out of spec.

i'd say find a z6 dist so u know it's right.

Actually the f22 dizzy wasn't too far off. Had to round out the top hole a bit with my die grinder though and I only used the top bolt. I timed it with my light, and it sat a hair forward from the center of the mount to get to 0*. If I had cut some off the back mounting tab I could have put 2 bolts on, but I was too lazy :P Trust me, if it wouldn't have even been remotely close to being able to set to 0*, I never would've posted it...just saying it can be done if you're tight on cash like I usually end up ^-^

well, he hasnt even checked for spark so i highly doubt he will time it with a light. good point though.
