replace the tps, if it doesn't fix, return it by not over-tightening the screws, or clean the old one up really well

you never said how it runs. good? kinda lumpy with sporadic milage?
it seems to run fine, except for the shifting issues. mileage has always been low on this car, but my mom only drives it 20 miles a week. so it's usually just start the car, drive 10 mins on the street then turn off the car.

i think buying and returning the tps is a good idea. i know most of the guys at my autozone so i don't think it would be a problem.

I'd clean the MAF sensor first before buying a new TPS.
so should i just clean the MAF and drive it to see if it is fixed or is there a way to test the MAF (with hmt tools) i don't have access to really cool electronic computer tools anymore.

also how do you clean a MAF sensor

anyone know where the maf is on this car?
i found a sensor on the throttle body just past the tps.
no clue what it is.

i didn't see any plugs or wires coming from the factory intake system.

well according to napa this car doesn't have a maf. they said the 1.5 engine had one, but not the 1.6

the sensor i found that was just passed the tps i think is the map sensor. it has some kind of gunk in it. i cleaned it a little and the car drove a little better. i'm thinking this might be part of the problem

i'm going to take it off and clean it better, but it is ------- raining. as soon as it lets up i'm gonna rip it off and bring it in to clean it.

still looking for ideas.

i already replaced the tps, but i don't know how to reset the obd code. i tried pulling fuses like you do with hondas, but nothing happened

no one has it, i found something like a service manual online, but it's a pain in the *** to find stuff.

pulled off the map sensor and it has some oil on it.

however i'm starting to think the shifting problem is really a transmission problem
