those older hyundias and kias were really bad on automatic transmissions. im sure you checked the trans fluid right, also dont use anything other than hyundia or kia fluid they dont respond well to other brands

yeah the fluid didn't look bad, but i changed it anyway.
you used to work at hyundai right?
do you know how to clear the cel without a code reader? i pulled the neg batt for 30 mins and that worked, but is there another way.

map sensor had some oil or some kind of fluid on it today when i pulled it out. tomorrow i'm gonna clean it up good and see if that might have been the problem

seems like the problem is not tranny related, but something telling the tranny wrong things.
hence the tps cel. i've read that the tps code can be thrown because of a bad map. the map disagres with the tps...

i worked for kia which back then was almost the same thing. other than the scantool the only way i know of was removing the battery cable for 2-5mins. i just remove it smoked a cigarette and when i was finished smoking put the cable back on. when i first started at kia i remember a ---- load of 02 spectras coming through getting the transmissions replaced. but also the those cars always blew alot of oil into the intake system so hopefully the oil did not mess up the sensor. ill check around for the hyundai site which is basically most of the information the techs would get online for tech support. i know kias was kiatechinfo.com which was basically the same site we used for tech support and diagnostics ----

yeah i found a lot of oil on the mapsensor. i was gonna clean it today and check everything out.
the car is going through oil. maybe a .5-.75 quarts every oil change. 3-4months.
it's not burning the oil and it's not leaking the oil.

do you know what would cause the oil to get into the intake manifold? maybe the pcv valve or something.

could be the PCV but also a really clogged air filter causing a slight vacumn between air box and tb and with the pcv clogged the engine is sucking oil through the breather port.

cool. the air filter is fairly new now, but she went 35k miles on one air filter.
one of the worst looking filters i had ever seen

today i'll check out the pcv valve.

ok so after searching around looking at anything this problem could be. i've checked everything.

check list

tranny fluid
pcv valve
pulse generator
tps
don't know how to check the map, but i cleaned it off (covered in oil)
iacv don't know how to check it either, but i cleaned it.


the iacv is making a strange buzzing noise i've never noticed before. almost like it's broke.
anyone have some ideas?

OH YEAH
after cleaning the map it seems like the problem is worse.

Sounds like hair clippers.

Check and see how much voltage is going to it. Kinda sounds like its stuck open.
