not hearing vtec???

i swapped in my d16z6, and just got my vafc wired up. The guy i bought the engine from said vtec kicked in hard, and he could hear it, said it was pretty loud. i dont hear it. i can tell a difference from when it engages at 7k and at 5k, so i know its working, but is it not working right or something, or is it ok that i dont hear it. just making sure everything is ok before i put the turbo on.

agreed single cam Vtecs are tough to hear on engaugement (since the intake valves are getting the extra duration/lift) take off your air-filter and go drive around the block and listen carefully, you will hear it. Or, dissconnect your vtec solinoid and go drive around the block, it will feel really ----- on the top end.

Even dohc B-series are tough to hear once you put a turbo on.
