Default Normal Operating Temp?

I'm having issue with temps and I'm just wonder.

Today I hook my OEM Temp Gauge back up because I got a new cluster that so I could do this (other one was fried) but I also have a Aftermarket temp gauge.

the after market one show 205deg but the OEM one is about a little less then half. I was under the impression that 205 was a little too hot especially when last year I could cruise a 10mph for an hour in hot temps and never go over 195deg.

i don't run a fan and even in the hottest weather, my temps don't go above 1/3 if i let it sit for a long as time, it will go up to a little under half, like yours, but i don't really trust the factory gauge too much.

Well it now goes up too 205 and will hold there no matter how I drive it.

I'm getting a 12" fan, maybe a 1 step colder thermostat, and then eventually a better rad when the funds come around.

1/2 way on stock gauge is 205-210.

Ever notice how you gas gauge drops really fast after 1/2 tank, the temp gauge uses the same setup.

135-200 on the aftermarket gauge means almost no movement on the stock gauge.

Crusing water temp should be 180-185, any hotter than that and you have cooling issues.

You might see 190-195 facing into the sun on a hot day, reflected heat from the pavement.

Cool. the guys on ht said that 205 can be normal, but personally I don't like that. I'm gonna get those temps to come back down.

yea, the gas guage is designed like that to fool people into thinking they are actually getting better gas milage. when the gauges are linear, manufactures found that people complained and brought the car back complaining of bad gas milage. seriously.

another trick they use to is to make some guages move really slow. if your oil pressure gauge reflected the actual readings, most people would bring the car back.

my cruising temps are around 170, fan comes on around 175-177, and the hottest it runs while sitting in traffic in the summer is around 180-185, and it gets around 100° here in the summer. last summer i didn't even have a fan and temps rarely reached over 200 while sitting in traffic. i think you have some cooling issues. do you run a coolant mixture or water? pure water cools the best and you don't have anything to worry about as long as it doesn't get around or below freezing where you're at. i usually run water in the summer and a mix during the winter.

If you are going to run straight water, put a little coolant in there. There are chemicals in there that are beneficial to have. It will still be much better than 50/50.

The stock gauge is worthless for most things. Mine rides at about 175-185 when I am cruising at 70-80.

The thermostat starts to open at 174 and fully open whenever. My fan hardly ever comes on.

There is a pretty large range of what is acceptable for cars in general, but 200+ is HOT for a Honda. Start looking into why you are not cooling properly.

It isn't a stuck thermostat, that would cause fluxuations or total overheating.
