Noob to engine build

Alright, I'm building a b16 for boost. It's at the machine shop right now getting the basic ---- done. I have eagle rods for it and i need to choose pistons. I've heard good things about CP pistons so i'm 95% sure i'm going with them unless someone can tell me otherwise. My question is which compression to run. I know people say 9:1 to be safe (i wanna hit 300hp, and it has to be extremely RELIABLE), but there's also 10.5:1. The motor is 10.4: stock and i figure people have boosted stock type r's and s2k's which have like 11. So should i be a ----- and get the 9, or go with the 10.5

Also if i do go with the 9, and run it in NA trim with the stock computer to break it in, it'll just be a little sluggish right? Will i lose a shitload of off-boost performance with that compression drop?

shouldnt be more than 12whp loss w/ the compression drop, but the a/f will be a little rich on the stock maps. CP pistons are fine (just about top notch). depending on how soon you plan to tune or at all depends on which compression best suites you. obviously lower compression has more room for error as its less likely to detonate, but higher stock like compression will obviously make more power. i say if you plan to run a good amount of boost and can dish out the dough for a good tune go w/ the low compression pistons and higher boost. off boost wont be as fun, but if you are going all out build for boost might as well get as much boost out of it as you can.

yeah that's basically what i've been telling myself too. But the motor is also going to be NA for a while until i can save up for the turbo components i want. So i don't want it to be a slug that's too rich and doesn't have any compression.

well.. if it were me, i try to get a deal on some 9:1 pistons and with the money i saved buy an aggressive cam and some gears, port and poilish the head ect.. just build the head to increase the NA whp.. that why you'll be fine...

you wont have anything fun to drive thats 9:1 na

which still doesn't answer my question :P

so 9:1= weaksauce in a NA B series?

So be a pimp and get 10.5??

9:1 isnt anything to be calling home about na. I'd say if your gonna get a turbo in less than 6 months, get the 9:1 pistons. You'll have a much more reliable and fun setup when she finally gets her snail. 10.5:1 would limit me (me doing the tuning) to running 10psi or so. Trust me, there is nothing like 20 >:D

thanks, that's want i wanted to hear. This project is basically for me to build a reliable motor. So i'll be using a 60/63 t3 for starters (can't wait to see the throttle response on that), and then i'll upgrade. Long as i hit at least 300 i'll be happy O0

I drove a accod with a blown head gasket for like 8 mile yesterday, it was really fast
it was in the red for temp for like 15 min but i still made it ewhere i was going
