No Spark gsr
alright im in the process of trying to sell my gsr and i go to let the car run since its been sitting for about a month and i find that the car starts then shuts off. i undo the dist. cap and find the screw for the rotor has come undone and that the inside of the car and rotor are damaged. no problem right so i get a new cap and rotor. i go to start the car no spark again. no spark when i test the #1plug wire. im starting to think my dizzy ---- the bed? eighther that or my ecu. i dont have money to replace eighther right now so im asking you guys houw can i test this thing and if youve had similar problems where it was a cheap fix. isnt there an ignitor pack or somthing that can burn out and is that common?

Re: No Spark gsr
yea i'm thinking that screw made its way around to the coil in there and zapped it
|
Re: No Spark gsr
what would that mean? id have to replace the whole dizzy or just the coil pack? is there a way to check that?
|
Re: No Spark gsr
yea if you got a spare one sitting around :P
|
Re: No Spark gsr
ill see what i can do :-[

Re: No Spark gsr
igniter FTW
|
Re: No Spark gsr
multimeter and test light will show what is damaged etc
ecu's just dont go bad its very rare |
Re: No Spark gsr
anyone have an ignitor they want to part with on here and can ship to fla this week? im pretty damn convinced that that is the problem now. ill go diagnose it later today if i get a chance.

Re: No Spark gsr
test your coil with an ohmmeter and take your igniter to autozone. Their tester is usually in a drawer near the battery tester / alternator tester area.
If you have someone else with a honda, you can borrow their coil/igniter to determine the problem. You can take both out with the distributor still in the car if you want. |
Re: No Spark gsr
sweet i didnt know they tested those i called them they want 70bucks for a new one so ill take mine in and see if its no good i guess.

Re: No Spark gsr
Call around first. Most of the people there don't even know they have it.
Usually called an Ignition Module tester. It has adapters for all makes and models as well as a chart showing which to use and how to test it. |
Re: No Spark gsr
update: checked voltages at the coil and they are fine the problem is the ICM i need a new one.

Re: No Spark gsr
one more thing do you guys know what other cars icms are compatible with my gsr dist.? can i use an ls or b16 icm and do thye have to be obd1 since mine is ???
|
Re: No Spark gsr
you can use a sohc one if you want .. ;) i've mixed and match icms from d's to b's and the other way around

simple logical thinkin can sometimes be hard... |
