New to site and about to get a car, what motor to get?

I'm about to get a EG6, I'm going to have time before I can drive it, so I wanted to swap it. Its going to be my first car and I need something I can count on.

I was thinking about getting a b18c1, c5, or doing a b20/vtec, but I want to boost it later on. I've asked a few people what was a good idea, and someone told me keep the stock motor, build it and boost that. I heard stay away from the b20 by a few people and someone told me to get the b18c1, and I heard the c5 wasnt a good motor to boost.

I was wondering what heads I could use for the b20, and how well that motor holds boost? And which would be a set-up I could depend on? Thanks.

Out of those 3 motors the B20 will hold the least amount of boost. I would just build and boost the stock engine. Getting that c5 will rape your wallet, the c1 a little better. Much easier to stick with the stock engine. Have faith, it will be much more cost effective and tear ---- up if done right.

this is hmt, so most people are gonna tell you to boost your current motor. we pretty much are fans of the d.
but if you have to get a b, the ls is a good route.
so ya, stay away from the c5 and b20.

If your 16 I'm assuming the funds are sponsered by dad and you will kill yourself or someone else with a bossted b series. I had a 14 sec zc in high school and was a fool I couldn't image a low 12 sec car. Do some searches around Jeff aka ABAZ the creator has lots of info about kits/ls/vtec engine builds look in projects page and read through the forums. Great detailed info.

Also unless your more skilled than most at your age you will not be able to build a car of that caliper on your own. To build an ls/vtec w/ boost and have someone do it for you and do it right your in the 6k+ range. People here get cheap deals because we build peoples junk known has the big D

My parents are buying my car. I'm paying for everything else. I've boosted a car before. If you remember BlinD (red del Sol, body kit, d16y7) We did that together, he was my boyfriend at the time. I wasnt planning on doing it myself, I have a few friends and my brother are willing to help.

Thanks for all the advice, I was thinking to keep stock motor until out of high school also. But I wasnt going to boost the B series for a long time.
