Default Need a tranny guru

Ive been through 3 transmissions within the last year or so in my crx. None of them started grinding gears, or broke to where the car wasn't drivable. They all start making a knocking noise after a couple of months of driving on them. Its ------- annoying!

It makes the noise when at idle, with my foot OFF the clutch peddle. With my foot ON the peddle at idle there is no noise.
All the transmissions ive been through have had the same clutch setup, which consist of an ACT six puck unsprung disc and an ACT high pressure pressure plate. Im not sure of the clamping force on the pressure plate, but its a lot. Clutch peddle is a stiff sum bitch.

The transmission is fine for driving, but when at idle in a parking lot, or at a stop light its annoying as ----! So ive been changing them, but the problem comes back every time. What the ---- is causing this?

Dead ISB's (input shaft bearings), sure your putting in enough oil?

two quarts thru the reverse switch opening.

unless your HD PP is causing issues, like crankwalk

you are supposed to fill them until it runs out the fill check hole, and it's about 3 qt's.

Check the runout of the clutch & flywheel with a dial indicator. If it's out a bit it will put alot of stress on the input shaft bearing.

crank walk has nothing to do with the runout of the clutch and flywheel. Crank walk refers to the longitudinal play of the crankshaft, caused by a worn thrust bearing. If your PP is bent, the flywheel was machined incorrectly, or any number of other things, it could cause radial loads on the input shaft. This would also cause radial loads on the main bearings, but it might not be enough to cause damage to them.

So your saying that the cause is more than likely the flywheel? The one im using is a stock one thats been lightened, so maybe this might be the culprit. Also i rebuilt the bottom end not long ago and the mains had a little wear on them but nothing to bad.

So a 3x strong PP isn't gonna effect the thrust bearings?

I never mention runout.......but you might wanna run and hide.

The PP will effect the thrust bearing, but it will not effect the input shaft bearing,m and neither will a worn thrust bearing.

Basically what I'm saying is that any wobble in the flywheel/clutch assembly will put stress on the main bearings and input shaft bearing, because they will be effectivly misaligned. The input shaft bearing is probably more likely to fail than the main bearings, because they recieve forced lubrication.

If the flywheel is not perfectly flat, than the PP won't be, and neither will the friction disc. Since it is an unsprung disc it will be more rigid and will cause what I just mentioned.
