Default missin nut in ls head

so i picked up a complete ls with tranny for 100 bux. lol dude was kinda a retard though.lol. any he tells me it needs rings over the fone. when i get there i see its ben sittin in the weatehr for a few months now but still in god shape. well then he goes on about i think in needs a bearing or its probably the valve train. basicly it burns oil and he doesnt know why. so i take the head off last nite and when i remved hte vavle cover i noticed one of the nuts missing off the place where u doe the valve lash on hte exhaust side. well i pull hte head and hte block looks to be in great shape. and the cylinder where it was missin the nut is all nasty but looks fine other then bein really dirty.

so do yall think it was just the nut missin or are there any more signs i need to look for in the block for it needing new rings?

clifff notes--- bought ls for 100 bones smokes the man said. pulled valvecover and noticed a nut missing off the eaxhaust valve wehre ur do the valve lash. could that cause the smoke he speaketh of or could it still need rings? when a block needs rings is there a tale tell sigh in hte cylinder walls

so i need to get the valves seated in the chamber rite? no grooves or anything. looks good to me.
im thinkin fix the head in htat one spot maybe get it milled then going one of two routes

1) leave it alone and put the head back on and start builing a kit

or

2) put some pr3's in it and hten start building a kit. but i would have to put in new bearing and rings im sure.

im thinkin bout puttin new bearings in anyways just cheap insurance i guess.
rite now i got a b20 in the coupe with gsr tranny. im sure its gonna be fun for a minute just cuz i aint had a toy in like 8 months. goin from a built d on 18#s but due to getting greedy it umm, blu up!!! lol. im really wantin to build a b series but hell ive seen stock ones pushin 400 but thats with an awesome tune probably. biggest problem rite now is i THINK i want a bike. after riden a few of my friends im in love lol. but i like listen to music and chillin when i drive whilst having the ability to play with the big boys.
