mini me + vitara pistons

Guys been looking through certain posts. :)

I have a d15 no vtec. its at stock compression.

Reading through the vitara thread people stated tha tthe compression would fall as low at 9 .

This will probably mean that my car would be sluggish at bottom end.

Now I have a question, if I did a Mini me swap and then decided to put the vitara pistons in with crower rods.
what compression would i get ?

:-*

Hey,
Use a compression calculator to figure it out :P

the money spent on crower rods for d15 might be better spent locating a d16 block and eagles... just my thought though...

Stock D15B2 compression is 9.2:1 Ibby
It's already in the low 9's

Did anyone do the group buy for the viatara pistons?

Re:mini me + vitara pistons

Vitara pistons Yield a lower than 9 compression ratio. In D16Y7 its 8.5:1...On Y8 engines is around 8.7:1

The problem with D15 engines is the rod lenght that is Shorter than the D16 rod so the compression ratio will definitelly change..
The vitara piston is slightly shorter than the Honda OEM thats why it yields lower CR than the Oems cause when you put them in they dont get flush up top of the sleeve..So theres more Piston to valve clearance hence lowering the compression.

Now..if the piston is slightly shorter then what would happen if you put D16 rods(longer) on the D15 block with the Vitaras(shorter piston)..I guess it would get even...Just a theory but no one has tried it out..I think that with the Vitara pistons on a D15, the D16 rods could be used and the piston should get almost flush up top with the sleeve and yield a higher compression than D16's..Probably it could get into the 9's CR..If this is true then D15 guys could use D16 Eagle rods and vitara piston on their cars.
Just food for thought.

(fjt)Are you doing the group buys yet? Pm me if you are.

Re:mini me + vitara pistons

i dont think that will work.

I belive the d16 rods / d16 egal rods have a slighlty diffrent at the bottom end., (how thick they are, on the crank)

so u really cant use them, unless u change the crank,
but a d16 crank wont work in the d15. :(

The best way to solve this problem is to get a d16. Problem solved. And if you intend to build the bottom end just buy a bare short block. You could find them for a fair price.
