mini me rods

d16a6 to z6. ill get a higher compression and won't be smart to boost without fuel managment. will my bottom end be stronger if i replace a6 rods with 87-89 integra rods?(cant afford eagle)

Ya, LS rods are a lot stronger, you'll have to have them machined a bit to fit on the crank.

Anyway, with boost on a mini, the rod strength isn't really the problem you should worry about. The stock A6 rods can handle between 200 and 220hp.. What you need to worry about is detonation, since your c/r is going to be so high. Better have a good fuel mangagement system setup so you can cope with the high compression and boost.

yeah, i've been researching the Vafc hack. i cant afford a zdyne. ghettodyne doesnt have an option for boost yet. also, would it help the compression if i got a thicker guage gasget?

Getting the head gasket would be smart. Even with good fuel management.

ok i might be wrong but 87-89 teg rods are still d-series and i doubt they are much stronger...the ls b18a wasnt until 90 i thought

Hold on hold on hold on...

The *main* reason that people do Mini's is for the higher compression. A thicker head gasket will drop your compression.

Just adding "VTec" isn't really worth it.. I've also been in debates that VTec inhibits turbo use..

Mainly this has been with the LS/Vtec NA vs FI.. but I would think the same concepts would ap;ly because you're going from non-VTec to VTec.. oh well..

Maybe some VTec turbo owners can reply.

On dohc Vtecs yes.. overlap occurs with FI setups.. on single cam vtecs its not a problem at all.

Just look at BoostedED9's Dyno chart. He's using a 2mm headgasket on the mini-me (or is it the whole block too?), and he's putting down massive power (T3/T4) at 12PSI... Think he was up to 240 wheel horsepower or greater now.

Pepper:

He also compensated by adding more boost..

Depends on the application.

I don't know.. having run the VTec head.. it was cute, but.. I think I'm going to try to break this DX motor, and see how well boosting a non-VTec head works, then I'll slap in another one of my mini's I have sitting here and see how that goes.. A comparison, if you will..

its a stock z6 with a 2mm thick head gasket.. not a mini-me
