i've done alot of reading about the swap and im starting to get mixed information. first question- i bought an A6 head gasket and mainfold gaskets, do i need to get the Z6 gaskets? second- the whole distributer thing has got me all fucked up, i could use some help on how to get it on there and how to get it timed. pictures would be good. thanks.

there are other threads about this, take a look in this section and then the Gen Disc. section. otherwise, wait for replies and check the net.

Ok.. It's easy. The head gasket you need is the Z6, yes. Because if you look at the two side by side, there are coolant holes in the Z6 that are not in the A6.. if you try to use the A6, some say you'll have heating issues. This is not confirmed, but for the sake of "better safe than sorry", use the Z6..

As far as the intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, they're the same. Use the A6s..

Now, for your distributor.. I've seen those idiot articles, and posts, where they say you can't set your timing.. That's BS. Cop of two of the "ears" where you bolt the distributor to the head, get two large flat washers, put the distributor in, put the bolts through the washer, and put the bolts in the head, then proceed to tighten. You'll set your timing the exact way you were setting it before. The washers will act as a brace when you tighten the bolts. Very simple, ghetto looking, but simple.

Good luck! ;D

Yes.. and get one with an "advance" knob. Do'nt get one of those stupid ones.

Easy way to tell if it has advance.. it'll cost around $70, not $30.
