Mini-Me: block choice

I just ran into a guy the other day and he has a z6 IM and Head for 225. the head is rebuilt with, he says, only 3000 miles on it. i am most likeley going to buy it. i have a lil d15b2 with 175k miles on it and i was wondering if it would be worth it to put that head on that block or go with a different one. No i dont have a spare short block lying around. Also i was wondering about those d17's. anyone have any info if they can be used in a mini me and if anyone has used one, or are they a weird engine like the d16a1's

researcher research. d17/a1 are a no go for bolting on. Compression test your motor. If you get 150's or lower scrap the idea of the head and invest in a better condition bottoem end

Re:Mini-Me: block choice

so if i do a comp test and my comp is ove 150 in all 4 cylinders then that would be ok, not saying rebuilding the lil block would hurt. basically what im looking at is buying the head. then if the bottem end in me car right now is good then ill do that but if its borderline ill try to find a block i can rebuild... for cheap.

Ya but a good d15 motor is 170+ anything below 150 is goin to die really quick with the vtec head and the extra rev range

Re:Mini-Me: block choice

i used a y7 block will good outcome. i think a steaight d16z6 would be the best choice her. but a a6 block or y7 block are your best bets. make sure u remove the oil squirter out of the a6 block tho or vtec wont engage

Re:Mini-Me: block choice

I say do it.. I've slapped on several z6 heads on stock d15 bottoms, in fact I'm going to do it again to a real high milage d15 and boost it. If the d15 you have in your car runs good right now, just put the head on.

I agree. I also just put together a Mini-me setup for my hatch using a D15B7 bottom end and the Z6 head. I have yet to install it, but I'm faithfull it will rip harder than the D15B2 DPFI setup thats in there now, ;)

i remember reading about the guy with the d17 internals in the d16. some machining and matching and he got a good stroker.

Re:Mini-Me: block choice

that would be moving in the wrong direction IMO but maybe thats just me bc i enjoy the revs of a honda motor

a good flowin head/cam choice is more of a factor than displacement in many applications. Want to see some video of an all motor h22 makin power to 9500 and peakin on the dyno at 9000 that I tuned. Back on the topic just comprssion test if it comes out fine then do it. End of story

Re:Mini-Me: block choice

well as of right now i have my contact down in miami following up on two motors one is a d16z6 complete engine and hopefully i can pick it up for 300, and the other is some other d16 the guy didnt specify. But if they still have them i will jump on it instead of paying 225 for just a rebuild head and im

i understand what your saying and hell yea that soudns like a cool vid, i was more of just saying that the really horrible r/s ratios of a long stroke short rod d17 though would be a torque monster would not be rev happy, at least not for very long, which i think is what most honda owners like, or maybe thats just me.

anyhow back on topic again, if you dont have a compression tester or someone to borrow one from, i believe you can borrow one from autozone

I like the d15 bottom ends just for the fact of the rod to stroke ratio is nicer than a d16...combined with a z6 or y8 head, you can spin those suckers up there ;D

Re:Mini-Me: block choice

heh that reminded me i say a whole ---- load of civics with that lil d15 in them. maybe ill try to find one with decent miles and rebuild it. the only thing i should pull is the short block right like from the deck down to the oil pan?
