MaD clunking noise
it is a 95 civic dx. It would make a loud "CLUNK" whenever i make a mild/sharp turn, well 50% of the time, and it gets louder if it is a turn over an un-ever road such as driveway/dips. The noise would came from the right side suspension if i turn left, or left side suspension if i turn right :S , sometimes it felt like the "CLUNK" is coming from the firewall underneth my foot, oh and it happens at any speed.
It all started after i replaced the clutch AND putting in a gsr front sway bar at the same time. i`ve checked everything, all motor mount, axle, sway bar endlink, balljoint, hub nut, bushing and they all seems to be in good condition. There are no loosen bolts (even sub frame bolts). i don`t see any shiny spot on the sway bar (indicating rubbing), the bar is not touching anything even at full compress (i checked by removing the wheel and jack the suspension all the way up). I tried turning/jerking the wheel/ bouncing the car up and down and it doesn`t make any noise. I replaced the shocks but the noise is still there (STOCK SUSPENSION other then the sway car), basically I can NOT reporoduce that noise unless the car is moving. oh and i had an alightment done and it does not help. someone give me some lights :X |

Re: MaD clunking noise
the stupid madtyte jdm keychain goes on the back tow hook, not front.
haha. you got the axle popped in all the way; also, not seperated in the boot? which ball joint you remove? |
Re: MaD clunking noise
have you tried a lock to lock test when not moving. sounds like the steering arms are hitting the bar..

again it only happen when I am making a turn and the car leans. |
Re: MaD clunking noise
Do you coil over springs on the front? Mine clunks when i'm making a turn out of my driveway and it's a transition in height...since my driveway is elevated up from the street, the spring compresses too far on one side and lifts the other side up a hair. When the car levels back out, the springs "clunk" back into place. Figured I'd just through that out for consideration :-\

got $50 for trade in when we bought our 2000 teg ;) the cav became unsafe to drive, brakes sucked (constantly would warp) and seatbelts wouldnt hold, the firewall leaked water (like all 88-94 cavs), wanted to get a car so we went out. to be honest, if it was 100% my choice we wouldnt have gotten the teg. We're at the point in our lives when we need a decent car w/ 4 doors and cargo room. I wanted a 1.7EL or a protege5. oh, and I still have the crx. |
