ls vtec, can i use b16 headstuds?
 

i have a set of brand new arp headstuds for a b16a, anyone ever use any other headstuds aside from gsr headstuds to do an lsv? hopefully i can use these!

I asked before I bought my headstuds because I was using a b16 head, figured i would need b16 studs.

I was told no, you need gsr

Same here, Chris sold me Gsr one'c.

I have a friend that used b16 studs on his ls vtec and headgasket leaked in like 15 milles... I know gsr ones are longer so they should be better.

GSR ones are needed. The part number for the ls/vtec-b20/vtec ones are the same as the gsr

I would recomend ARP studs for LS Vtec, or Egle ones

You buy the headstuds that match the head. Although studs seems to be extremely similar between B18C3,5 B16A/B1,2,3 studs.

The reality is, unless your planning on experiencing head lift, I doubt you need them. Stock headbolts worked fine for me up till ~300 whp on my turbo B16 at 11psi as well on my D16y8 turbo at 11.5 psi.

Follow the ARP torque guidelines when installing, not the factory ratings. The torque specs change depending on what lube your putting on the threads (moly or oil).

Also, I highly recommend a girdle for your build from any B18C, (or Z10, endyn or whomever else is reputable) if you want to rev it high on a regular basis.

There are many reasons why a headgasket would leak, a 15 mile motor sounds like a sub-par build to me. Take your time and do your research and check clearances more than once. Also, Just because a "shop" has done it, doesn't mean it is correct.

Just because the stud is longer doesn't mean it holds better. The total number of threads is still the same, so they grip the same. The block is a female thread that has a static depth to it, the head casting has different offsets from the deck height for the top of the bolt. That is what needs to be matched.
