LS VTEC in, but shakes... HELP PLEASE
 

Well, My LS VTEC is finally in. Honestly it sucks ass compared to a turbo B16. VTEC will never be the same for anyone once they have experienced FI on it. I guess when I turbo it, it will be cool...

Anyway, my problem is, my car shakes under harder acceleration, and when I bring it up to highway speeds. It does this weird shimmey, side to side. What the ---- is that?

Did I do something werid with the mounts? EVERYTHING was hand torqued to spec, and I took REAL care of the axles. What do you guys think?

new mounts? what cond are the sus bushings in?

I just had the dealer replace the tie-rod ends and do the alignment. The mounts are all the stock ones from the car, it's a 95 with only 110k kilometers, they all look great.

I just want to know why, I don't want to throw it in the dealers face and tell them they fucked up.

I would like to know if it is something I did from the swap. Or something I could do without some sort of calibrating machine.

yes....alignment would be a good idea. but if your car ran fine before the swap...this motor shouldnt unbalance the car that bad. i had a problem before...with similar actions...and found out that the half shaft that sits between the axles was bad. If you pull off the axles on thr driver side, you can see how the shaft is spining. mine spun kinda in an oval...so...i replaced that and the car stopped shaking and swaying. the mounts shouldnt be a big problem UNLESS they are totally broken and gone. hope this helps. good luck

I had the same problem, the inside of my axles, one of the bearings broke, just the needle bearings came out, but it still works, just shimmied hard core.. check your axles...

which intermediate shaft did you use? i had the same problem when i did a swap and it ended up being the bearings in the intermediate shaft, did you use one that you knew was good?

Yeah, I used my stock axles, it was a B16 del sol, I just put the b18b block on my tranny with my heads. Thats why I don't understand. Stock tranny, stock axles..... ???

I had the same problem after my b18b swap. It was crappy aftermarket axles. I also had a weird jerk to the right then the steering wheel was shaking on the highway, that turned out to be a lose bolt holding the lower control arm on the drivers side.

yeah, there are so many things it could be... just go back and double check EVERYTHING! your axles, your intermediate shaft bracktet, ball joints, anything that you touched during the swap, if that's not it, go get your tires balanced and an alignment, if that's not it, swap out your axles, if that's not it, sell your car, if that's not it, oh, wait nevermind.......

Well, I have an appt tommorrow with the dealer that did the tie rods and alignment, they are going to check over their work and see if they fucked up.

I always have the worst luck...

Ok, well I just got my car back from the dealer, all they did was balance the four wheels, they did it for free nevertheless. But the problem is still there!!!

I took it out on the highway and if shakes between 70-105 km/h, it doesn't matter what gear, 3rd, 4th or 5th but it does shake more at a higher throttle in a higher gear but only in that speed range. At about 110 it is perfectly smooth again, and I only took it up to ~200 km/h and it was perfectly smooth. What the hell could cause this, I'm gettng really confused.

-Engine works fine throughout rpm range
-axles look fine, spin properly, no CV noise
-steering is normal
-wheels are aligned and balanced by the dealer, and I watched
-transmission shifts fine, even when shaking
-clutch has normal feel and doesn't slip

What the hell could it be?!?!? I'm running out of parts to diagnose.

does your shifter look like it shakes with the car? if so, it is more than likely something to do with your axles/intermediate shaft. does it shake even when you're going real slow, it just feels like the car is wobbling back and forth real slow??

Yeah the shifter shakes, but the whole front end shakes. It could be the intemediate shaft but why only for the small 35km window. I don't consider 75km to be slow, do you?

It definately sounds like a suspension problem and not a drivetrain problem. When it start shaking, does the car jerk to one side or another?

hrrrrrrmmmmmmmm....... i don't know, every shake that i've had related to suspension, the shifter doesn't seem to shake, every shake that i've had related to axles, spindles, tranny, the shifter seems to shake with the car, this is just from my experience though :-\

did you get any oil on the clutch? is it nerw and is the pressure plate resurfaced? how is your clutch system? is it blead/tightened correctly?

No, no oil on the clutch, actually I'm surprised that the clutch works. I had a real hard time taking off the flexplate for the b18 to put my flywheel on. And it's just a stock GSR clutch that I ran with my turbo b16 for 3 months, it still works. The finger wear wasn't even that bad. Goes to show you that launch control does save your clutch.

I got the dealer to blead the clutch for me, I don't have one of those vacuum hoses to get the air out. Also the clutch does grip well, I get sqeeks from 2nd to 3rd at the tires.

I have NO FREAKING CLUE WHAT THIS IS, I bet oneday I'll get in my car and it will just dissappear, or something will blow up. One or the other.

The springs are new, but what do you mean by out of balance? How would you palance an axle? You can't put weights on it or anything like that.

they are supposed to be checked when they are rebuilt or made new i will look and see what shops balance them. (i have heard of it being done never seen one)

or it the axles are even SLIGHTLY bowed it will have a wobble feel..

Well, I think I'm going to have to agree with you guys. Now the next question is, how do I FIX it. Or should I just get some new axles?

I'm thinking about maybe getting some ENJO axles, stage II for the turbo ls vtec. Do they come with an intermediate shaft?

What do guys know about this company, NO-ONE around me does ---- like this with their cars, and I am kinda beyond the help of the local perf shop in expertise now. I live in a ricey area. :'(

unless u are dumping the clutch all day long I dont think you will break axles. Jeff (Abaz) uses teg axles i believe.

my shop teacher once told me that if you hear and road noise or feel and shaking/bumps then has to do with the drivetrain/suspenion/or tires... you balanced the tires, check to make sure you didn't blow a shock at some point.

And what does it mean when your car wobbles at low speeds? Mine does this but i've kinda got used to it.

Next time you drive around Just drink 30 beers before hand. you'll have to try so hard to stay on the road you wont care about the shaking plus it might keep you from passing out good luck
