ls vtec
I just got a complete b18a1 block from a 92 integra, I plan to build it up with forged internals over the year. and do a ls vtec turbo.
is that a good ls block to vtec with? |
Re: ls vtec
b18a and b18b i dont think theres any thing different
|
Re: ls vtec
it will do fine.
|
Re: ls vtec
sure why not,
|
Re: ls vtec
yeah I did my research after the post. (------- noob!) but you know I still cant find no detailed writeup and parts list to accomplish this mission.
got the block b18a1 gonna order eagle rods for b18a which pistons to get, b16 or b18, I want wiseco 9.0.1 cometic head gasket Golden eagle conversion kit, or piece together my own whatever cost less king, or ACL rod+main bearing blockgaurd, yes blockgaurd cant afford sleeves, and block post is no go for me. and I dont want to fill the block everything else transfered from my b16 block I just ordered a ITR oil pump for my b16, it will still go on the b16, the ls vtec is just for a spare when I blow the b16, I can just swat parts over ARP head studs, which motor should I buy them for? b18 or b16? anything else I am missing? |
Re: ls vtec
You need GSR studs.Other than that it sounds like a solid plan for a build. If you are ordering a oil pump for the LS get a 94+ pump as they are Im pretty sure all the same for Bseries from 94 up.As well when you order a waterpump get the matching belt to that pump.IE GSR pump GSR belt.

as for your pistons, go with GSR spec boost pistons. Im running mahle 9.0:1 forged and they have worked out great. |
Re: ls vtec
thanks for the info guys! starting the order piece by piece.
after this build. how safe it is to rev to 8600rpm high boost? |
Re: ls vtec
RPMs are tensile loads (reversing the direction of the piston, ie drawing it back down when it wants to continue travelling upward through your cylinder head), power produced from boosting is a compressive load (combustion pressing against the piston pressing down against the rod). They are two different if related things, and for practical applications you can treat them as entirely different things.
Stock rods will do 8600 on 81mm bore, Eagles will allow you to go higher. Wes' CRX runs 9500 with Eagles on 81 mm bore and 00-01 ITR cams (same as CTR). Trav-ASS will be pushing 9200 or a touch more with Eagles on 84mm bore and *undecided* cams - has B16's in it now with no loss of power up top, we have GSRs laying around, but he's a balla and will probably buy something nasty. Keep in mind that the more efficient your turbo setup is, the higher up it pushes your camshaft's power range. Also keep in mind that higher rpms allow you to make more power off of less airmass... so your engine is burning a less dense combustion charge, making less combustion pressure per engine cycle, and not even coming close to stressing sleeves or melting pistons... yet the fact you are operating more cycles per second (revolutions per minute?) you make more power over the same amount of time. If you are set up for high RPMs with some longevity, most semi-built B-VTEC Honduhs are, it is actually safer to run the engine as high as possible. FYI, I'd rethink block pouring... it is not hard at all. ----, Jeff Evans has had great results off of stock block with .5mm oversize... just run the ignition and AFRs conservative, and get some dyno time to tweak your ignition timing better, and you might not hit the 650 whp he has, but you can impress yourself using your own common sense. |
Re: ls vtec
I currently revs to 8600rpms or higher on my b16 setup, my head has KMS valve train and GSR cams.
built bottom on stock sleaves with no problem now for my next setup, I plan to use the same head b18a1 block built bottom with stock sleaves I just read that ls motors arent meant to be revved that high. but I am in Germany and autobahn driving is a must want to make the best choice. my plans for the ls block are: eagle rods wiseco piston arp head and main studs gsr water pump/ greddy timing beltgsr itr oil pump pretty much the same I have in my b16, I already start ordering parts, but in no rush with the ls vetc setup |
