ls/vtec
Alright i have a 92cx with a b18b in it and its completely stock. I want a ls/vtec turboed thats my goal. My firend has a ls/vtec thats already made but its taken a part. It needs new pistons and rods before I put it back together because its got stock internals. Its a b18a block with a obd2 b16 head with gsr cams. It looks like it needs new valves because the ones in it are black but i don't know how to tell. He said he'll sell it to me for like 500 but i know he'll take 400 if i show up with the money. Hes already taken it to my house also. Do you think its worth it or should i just save up and turn my ls into a ls/vtec?

Re: ls/vtec
boost it ;D

Re: ls/vtec
do you mean boost my ls or the ls/vtec?
|
Re: ls/vtec
boost the ls
|
Re: ls/vtec
is the ls/vtec not worth it???

Re: ls/vtec
I want vtec ;D because my friend has a fully build turbo motor by JE (because thats his sponser) and its a b16a. when it hits vtec its so massive the tires break loose in every gear.

Re: ls/vtec
I went to NOPI this past weekend and I talked to this one guy and he said ---- all b-series get a k20 and turbo it.

Unless his goal was to spend alot of money, in that case...... good job. |
Re: ls/vtec
Oh, my. Massive VTEC.
|
Re: ls/vtec
just buy the head off him, and use ur b18b bottom end, throw in some forged pistons and rods, slap on the b16 head and turbo that bitch
|
Re: ls/vtec
I have heard that the K series ports are larger stock than the B series will ever be ported to the extreme, but due to the fact that everything about a K costs 3x more than a B, go with the B ;). Turbo the existing Ls, then when your ready to move up in the turbo world(or blow that setup, which ever comes first), save up the $$$.$$ and when you pull it all apart to put the Ls/Vtec setup together put in the Forged Internals as well ;).

Re: ls/vtec
I got bad news.............that guy that was selling me the ls/vtec passed away :'( . He was working on his 97 coupe that was converted to SI. He has a B16a in it. Well anyway he was taking out the block to get it tapped because the motor mount was stripped. So he had to get under his car to take a bolt loose and when he did it fell on him. I wasn't their to help because I was at nopi. He already dropped the LS/VTEC off at my house and everything, he didn't have any family or anything so I don't know what to do with the money that I was going to buy the motor with. I'm thanking about giving it to his g/f but idk. What do you think I should do??????? :-\
|
Re: ls/vtec
I'd give it to his g/f.
|
Re: ls/vtec
poor guy
give the girl something else, like......have u seen wedding crashers |
Re: ls/vtec
this is the worst ---- i ever heard man. i always wondered what it would feel like if the car tipped n fell =x i thought maybe hurt a grip with broken bonez but not dying. wonder who found him n what that persons reaction was like :o
|
Re: ls/vtec
His g/f was under the car first and she couldn't get the bolt loose. So he had to get under there and when he did (he was in a bad mood because he didn't get to go to nopi) he said i hope this car falls on me and i die........then he ask his g/f to get him a wrench so while she was looking for one thats when the car fell. She heard the car fall so she turned around and he was kicking and trying to get the car off of him self but he couldn't so she ran out to the road and and flagged someone down but it took like 2 or 3 min. because he lives in the middle of no where. any way they get the car off of him and give him cpr (he was blue from the chest up) while the ambulance was on there way. but it was to late. When the car fell on him it crushed his chest and he couldn't breath, but when they took the car off of him his lungs started filling up with blood so there was really nothing they could do. I found out that he was using a honda car jack and it wasn't all the way on the ground and also he was in gravels. There was like 50 or 60 imports that came to his funeral and we all burnt the tires leaving (thats what he would have wanted). A week before all this happened we where talking about our biggest fears and he told me that his biggest fear is being under a car and that he wouldn't care of dying any way but suffication :'(

Re: ls/vtec
can this seriously be true?
it sounds like the plot to 3f3f. some guys 9 sec car falls on him and kills him right after he says he wishes it would, his friend using his old motor street racing to avenge his death. all the ricers burn off leaving his funeral. and his worst fear was getting smashed under a car and sufficating. |
Re: ls/vtec
Its true none of this is fake.
I think I'm going to turbo my ls for a while until I have enough money for pistons and rods. Then after I do that I'm going to put pistons and rods and vtec head on it. I still haven't decided if I'm going to peice a turbo kit together or buy a full-race. My goal is to have a ls/vtec that has about 450 hp to the wheels. It might take me a while to do it but I'm in no hurry. |
Re: ls/vtec
That sounds sad man.
It was kinda his own fault though...using a honda jack and on gravel. eveyr mechaninc knows better...at least use 1 jack stand and never do it on gravel |

I still want LS-VTEC turbo ::) |
Re: ls/vtec
nub bs my ass...... you have to build up those motors just to run them... you cant run them on stock internals.

a good idea for longevity is to get arp rodbolts other than that u have no problems |
Re: ls/vtec
I'm planning on putting CP pistons and Eagle rods in it anyway.
|
Re: ls/vtec
it is hella cheaper and you can get more power just putting a turbo to it..... and you can do it all stock and get about 235whp out of it..... tested and proven
|
Re: ls/vtec
I"m getting CP pistons, and Eagle rods and putting the ls/vtec in and then put the turbo on ;D
What should I shift at with a stock b16 head with GSR cams? Eventually I'm getting cams and full valvetrain. |
Re: ls/vtec
to be safe dont go past 7500. not till you build it up.... it will take it but frankie wont take it for long
|
Re: ls/vtec
The stock OBD1+ B16 head, with GSR cams, will go pretty close to 9K on stock valvetrain. You really need (exhaust) springs at that point, but I know a few people who cheaped out and got away with it.
What your bottom end can handle is another thing. |
Re: ls/vtec
Hopefullly when I get those pistons and rods my bottem end will hold up for a while :-\

Re: ls/vtec
Tuning is more important than what parts you throw into the engine.
Keep in mind rpms are tensile loads, whereas combustion pressures are compressive loads. I've seen stock PR4 rods running 8500 rpms daily in B20/VTECs, with heavy 84mm slugs on the end of them, with reliability. Adding boost doesn't hurt so much, but the OEM rods aren't as strong as aftermarket - you detonate, they fold. And I'm not talking audible detonation, a touch or two of high-freq aka inaudible with the associated pressure spikes. Aftermarket forgings are not god, either. They just handle a little more abuse, but you spend $$$ for a split instance. |

Re: ls/vtec
What tuning system should I use? I can get hondata for about $350 and it comes with everything. Or should I just get Uberdata? I've got a turbo kit, well everything but the manifold. The turbo is a T3 T4 .60ar. and i need some injectors and a down pipe also. I'm getting closer to getting it peiced together. O yea I got a spearco intercooler. Its nice. I got fmu but i'm selling it.
