LS rods in Dseries block
I would like wat modifyin would ned to b done and is there any clearance issues??Lot of ppl talk bout shot peening ur stock rods wat does it do??You think tis setup will hold up wit 100shot wit forged piston n LS rod???
I know tis is a different question but is a 90-91 SI cam same as a DX cam?would it fit any D series block n any gains? |
Re:LS rods in Dseries block
the rod theory can be done at any local machine shop. some say dont do it and others like me think why not?
its not a bad idea. the up side is that its less weight so it takes less for them to move around. I think its got something to do with enertia. 2nd they are a bit beefier (sp) than your stock rods so i guess its better in that sense. good luck and i'm not sure about the cam profiles on the dx and SI. you would either have to measure the cam lobes on it or do some more research on the subject. |

Re:LS rods in Dseries block
fitting the ls rods in a d-series isnt a problem, you need to resize the journal end, and use aftermarket pistons. Stock pistons and the ls rods aint gonna happen.

Re: LS rods in Dseries block
if you are going to buy forged pistons go ahead and get forged rods, I think the rods are more important anyway. I learn bad by being cheap, now I am rebuilding again and I just finish the build. I did not bore over my clinders after I discovered scoring, now I am burning ouil bad, I had to order another set of oversize pistons to do it again, my head gasket cost me $150 and the rod bearings cost me 280 euros so dont be half ass. I know its a different situation but it will turn out the same results. do it right the first time you wont have to do it twice.

Re: LS rods in Dseries block
dude... i had about $1000 in my si a6 engine and i went with shot peened rods and i busted the #3 rod and spun a bearing ------ up the whole engine. now after two blocks and about $2000 im in for the next engine and i will by aftermarket rods and arp bolts to hold them. so when im slammin thru gears and redlining i know my piston , rod combo is not failing. its well worth the extra $200-$300.
