Ls rods on a D series engine
I heard that you could use LS rods on a D16A6. Know how would the piston fit on the rod? Anybody has any experience using this combo?

Re:Ls rods on a D series engine
B18A/B rods are the ones to use. first you have to get the crank ends machined down to fit inside the D crank. then you need to get the piston end of the rod machined down in width, and have the top sleeved so the D series piston knuckle won't wobble around. hope this helps. and if you need a set, i have 4 B18A rods that are ready for machineing, and they are in great shape. (one has a slight bit of rust on the drop, but it would come off with WD40 and a soft brush).

kaneda. i like your sig. i was laughing so hard i got tears. anyway, how much are you trying to get off those rods for? shipping to 98532?

Re:Ls rods on a D series engine
i paid $50 for them, i'll let them go for $40 plus ship. i don't have them here to figure the weight for shipping, but it's coming from 46219. they still have the bearings in them too, not in to bad of shape either. i'm guessing around 7lbs.... that'd be about $14 priority... that might be high, i was figureing a little over a pound a peice on the rods... might close though, not sure.

I like your sales pitch, but I already bought some rods long time ago, Thanx. Which rod bearings would I need to buy, B18's or D16? Thanx

Re:Ls rods on a D series engine
D16 since you'll have them machined down to that size.

Re:Ls rods on a D series engine
How many horses can the LS rods hold? What do you mean have the top sleaved? You mean the top of the cylinder?
|
Re:Ls rods on a D series engine
no the top of the rod, it needs a different bushing/sleeve...

Re:Ls rods on a D series engine
not sure the HP ratign on them, there's a guy on another board that runs B16A (same thickness, just a bit shorter) and supra pistons and runs 20psi of boost.

Re:Ls rods on a D series engine
people say B series rods can hold to about 320 horses.

Re:Ls rods on a D series engine
why would u go through all that hassle and loads of money when u can buy eagle rods for 350$
im confused here. ::) |
Re:Ls rods on a D series engine
LOL You can get eagles for 300! I was looking at paying 450 :( . Im stupid...are they goin for 300 on eagle site?
How hard is it to install these with the motor still in the car, or im guessing that the motor has to come out right? Sorry, just corrected myself. Is it really worth it to put some eagles in or something? Cant the stock pistons still get damaged after like 200hp anyway>? |
Re:Ls rods on a D series engine
Yeah, I think the stock pistons could only take no more than 15 pounds of boost if tuned right. ok instead of paying $350 plus shipping, I payed $40 shipped LS rods with only 40,000 miles on them. Now the machine shop is only charging me $100 to get everything machined that's a grand total of $140 which isnt so bad ;D
