ls head/b16a block

Im really thinking about doing this set up. Anyone actually do it? Seems pretty straight forward just seeing if there is anything I need to look out for that may cause any problems.

Re: ls head/b16a block

Dowel pins and timing belt are going to be the roughest point. I started to throw this combo together last year before I broke down and bought my b16a. I ended up having the head machined to fit the dowel pins, plugged the oil return hole in the block and used an LS headgasket and rodbolts. The timing belt was where I got a little iffy on...normally I would've used the stock LS belt, but I wasn't sure if the b16's 203.25mm deck height would cause any problems seeing that the LS's is around 211.84mm. It probably would've worked with the standard 22 tooth water pump, but I didn't get that far.

i was thinking about doing this as well as my buddy has a b17 block sitting around with shot rod earings.... I was thinking about throwing b16 crank and rods in it and an LS head

What would be the advantages of doing this other than a higher R/S ratio?

I was going to do the same thing out of spare parts but found an LS shortblock for free.

I'm sure you have the parts to mock it up, but if not, let me know and I'll slap it together and take some pics.

a lot of people have thrown this idea around but i dont think anyone has gone through with it.

since you have to rev the piss out of a b16 to make power the LS's rocker arms are going to hate you.

That's what the nignog boost setting is for.

Werd...and with that low torque curve, it'll hook up better off the go. Besides, 1,000 rpm's won't really mean ---- at that point. ;)

im 98% sure a B16A timing belt will work and be perfect...

LS head + B16 block = :1

this is something that I've always wanted to do and almost ended up doing in the past just for the sake of being cheap. Who knows, with the parts flow I have in the garage I may do this for the ---- of it someday.

Light machining might be necessary for dowel pins to be universal (but you can ebay ls vtec dowel pins for cheap).

Capping off shortblock additional oil holes will be necessary.

I'm gonna say run an LS timing belt and LS water pump and you should be alright. I got a used LS timing belt that I'll throw at you if you're serious. The rest of the parts just should be used ass ----.

Yeah, and have fun floating a valve trying to make that b16 power via higher revs. In the end it will still be better than any stock D series.

I know for a fact ls/vtec dowel pins will not work. The whole reason people used to get the head's machined was due to the fact the LS blocks had the dowel pins on the opposite side of the block. Unfortunately LS heads aren't like b16 heads, and the opposite side for dowel pins is quite a bit smaller than on b16's. Now with that being said, take in to account the timing belt...an LS timing belt can normally be utilized on your average ls/vtec as long as you use the LS 19 tooth water pump. Seeing that the b16 block is shorter in height, logic says you'd need the shorter timing belt as well. ;)
