LS crank into GSR???

I have a stock USDM B18c1 and wanted to do an ls/vtec to get more comp and displacement. I was just wondering why LS rods and crank can't be put in a GSR block? Are the blocks that different? Are the mains different sizes or spacings? I tried to search for this first, but the search button kept sending me to a blank screen. If anyone could give me some answers that would be great. Thanks.

The blocks are the same.

The cranks and rods need to match however. LS crank gets LS rods, GSR/Type R crank gets GSR/Type R rods.

Use whatever pistons you like.

LS rods are wider than GSR/Type R rods, thus the reason they don't interchange, not to mention the pin height will be really low or really high.

The blocks are actually a little different with regards to deck height. I think it throws mechanical timing off almost a degree.

I have heard this as well and some of the online calcs show it too. I haven't seen any solid proof though. When I get my GSR block machined, I'll take the LS block down as well and ask them to measure the deck heights.

I believe it is in the factory service literature.

U need to plug the oil squirter's or notch the pistons as they hit.

LS 211.84
GSR/B16B 212.39

seems like that is backwards being as the LS has the longer stroke, but 3 diff sources say the same thing.

how exactly does that affect putting an LS crank and rods in a GSR block, lower compression even if using GSR pistons??

Just molest the deck height calc so the pistons are deeper in the hole by .55

edit:

with the GSR's mormal .76mm piston to deck hieght you come with 1.31 mm with the diff in deck height. i dont think that would fare well on stock sleeves at higher power because you have way more combustion chamber that is in the sleeve. maybe i am wrong but that just doesnt seem safe to me :-\ VW VR6's have the comb chamber in the bore but it is a solid deck motor
