Lightened flywheels let the motor rev faster, and also don't carry as much weight to help carry your torque on the bottom end. Which is more important to you? That's it. It's preferrance.

I use to have a 5.5lb flywheel on my built ZC and really liked it alot. Reved incredibly fast, I say a aftermarket flywheel is a must, but if your going budget style just shave the backside of a stock one down. You can get about 5-6lbs off safely.

If you do shave down your stock wheel, be sure to get it rebalanced....shouldn't cost too much from a machine shop. I turn flywheels all day every day (I have lightened a couple for people...) and from my personal experience, it really doesn't make that much difference to shave it down, you just can't take enouph off to really make that much weight change (mabe like 3 lbs)...you will see ALOT more change from a aftermarket wheel that you will get from hacking your stock one...plus it's ALOT safer, the chances of it exploding are small, but if it does, it's not worth it, it can kill you...not to mention destroy your car...

i got the clutchmasters aluminum and really like it.
i would take ur stock flywheel to the machine shop and have them cut down the backside take the ridge completly flat.
had this done on my old zc for like $35.
took like 8 lbs. off
never had and problems with it.
