Leak Down Test

Does anyone know what the results of a leak down test should yeild? Is there an industry type standard?

put in 100 psi regulated pressure. hopefully your motor will hold 95 psi in.

Basically, the gauge should read in percentages. Any more that 10%, you got problems. Put a little oil in the cylinders through the plug holes and test again. If the results are signifigantly less loss, you have worn rings.

you presurize the cyl and measure loss. "leak" down test.

so what, you just take the spark plug out and pressurize each cylinder individually via the spark plug hole and then see at what psi it starts to leak? isn't that basically the same as a compression test?

no you pressurize the cyl and see how much the psi drops over a period of time (seconds usually).

Experienced people can tell whats leaking by how much psi is lost. If you cant even pressurize the cyl that would tell me the valve is open of you have NO rings.. stuff like that.
