knock othere then rod bearings?

can a bad spark plug, dizzy, wires, injectors, or any thing else make a knocking sound?
under the hood lightly reving i can hear a knock, not a tick a deepre knock like sound.

after i finished my civic (92 hb z6) got the saftey inspections air care bull ---- done i pulled the enging and droped in my othere z6 (arp head studs new timing belt water pump blah blah blah) + turbo set up. keeping the original.
before the winter i started to get a knocking sound after doing some 4th gear pulls up a big mtn. parked the car for winter.

tried changing a rod bearing (the one i thought it was, yes it had damage on it) still knocked. ---- it changed the engine
but no the othere one dose it to, and i swere it was in good conidition before i pulled it out and stored it (inside a shop all ports holes pluged with paper towels)
got the swap done last night started it ran fine, had a cell wtf? turned it off started again no cell.
let it warm up raved a little... knock very minor.
is there any way this can be caused by any thing else, every thing exept block and head was same ie mnifolds, injectors, spark plugs, injectors,
i cranked the engine for 10 seconds before hooking up the dizzy to let oil circulate before starting it (old mechaninc teacher told me this trick)

help me out nogs

DId you have time to plastigauge the rod bearings? It doesnt take much, even just on the very high side of spec to give a little rod knock

no, it was allot worse after the repair - that engine was fucked any ways (old owner didn't know ----)

im going to try and repair this one
i looked up and found out how to plastigauge but how do i check if the crank or rods are fucked?

You can measure the run out of the journals, that's a good place to start, but if it had a fucked rod bearing that crank might be toast.

If the crank is slightly askew it should chew up the thrust washer/bearing pretty fast.

Re: knock othere then rod bearings?

ill have a quick look at the thrust washer/bearing

went to the parts store today they have 3 different sizes of plastique gauge and 4 sizes of bearings :S
i grabbed 4 sets of stock size
question do i use the red gauge (stock gap?) to check the stock bearings if they fit
use the green/blue to see if i need over size bearings
how do i know how much over i need the bearings?
and whats the stock size?

will post lots of porn when i get a chance
thx in advance nogs

Shop manual, even a Haynes, will have the bearing tolerances in it.

At least it should, I haven't looked at one in a while.
