keep blowing alt. solenoid fuse after vtec controller install ??

Ok, I just put a y8 in a EF. Installed a buddy club v con vtec controller. according to the tech I talked to, leaving the grey wire open. you would cut the power wire on the 2 pin connector on the solenoid in half. the grey wire would connect to the wire going back to the ecu if the car had vtec to begin with. witch I dont so it's just sitting in the engine bay

so I finally got it working but it keeps blowing the 10a alternator solenoid valve fuse. I just put a 20a fuse in it and it works fine now????? is it cause the vtec controllers drawing more power and possibly the alt. and or battery are not in the best condition/maybe starting to go bad? cant handle the extra power.
